Commencement on the Road: Celebrating Our Lacrosse Seniors |
While Walsh University’s Men’s Lacrosse team faced Seton Hill University on May 3 in Pennsylvania for a critical playoff game, nine senior athletes were unable to cross the stage at Commencement—but that didn’t stop the celebration! Vice President for Philanthropy Eric Constant brought Commencement to them, presenting their diplomas in a post-game, on-field ceremony for these graduating seniors along with their teammates, coaches, and families. A true Cavalier moment of heart, pride, and Walsh spirit—on and off the field!

Ohio Senator Jane Timken Visits Campus |
President Tim Collins hosted Ohio Senator Jane Timken (District 29), Vice Chair of the Senate Higher Education Committee, to advocate for the University and its students amid Ohio budget proposals and changes in higher education policy. Among the issues are changes that restrict access to Ohio grant and scholarship support to students unless private institutions comply with provisions governing public institutions.
“Private education has contributed to the public good since its inception in 1636 in America,” said President Collins. “The proposals would yield public control over private institutional hiring, governance, and mission. The Ohio legislature is sending the mixed message that in the midst of expanding access for K-12 this proposal constricts access for private higher education. The student should choose where they get their undergraduate education – not the state of Ohio.”
President Collins discussed with her how these policy proposals will significantly impact student affordability, access, and availability as well as the University’s ability to serve its mission. The tentative date for the Senate to vote on the budget is June 12, 2025.
