Previously, an individual Canvas site was created for each individual course section listed in DukeHub. For example, for a cross-listed course with three individual course sections, three Canvas sites would appear on the instructor’s dashboard with students spread out in each site depending on which section they enrolled in in DukeHub. This required the instructor to manually cross-list these sections together within Canvas, which we understand is a time-intensive process.
Starting with Fall 2025 courses, permanent cross-listed course sections will be automatically cross-listed together for you. This means that only the ‘parent’ Canvas site will appear on your course dashboard, and students in all ‘child’ course sections will have access to the parent site.
There is no action needed on your part; you will see this change in your dashboard for affected Fall course sites by the end of this week.
Courses not classified as permanent cross-listed courses will still need to be manually cross-listed, if desired, following these instructions.
If you have any questions about this change or about cross-listing within Canvas, you can reach the Canvas at Duke administrators at canvas@duke.edu.
