Micah 3:8
But as for me, I am filled with power,
with the Spirit of the Lord,
    and with justice and might,
to declare to Jacob his transgression,
    to Israel his sin.

New International Version (NIV)
Pastors make for better dinner company than prophets.  In my experience, people prefer a pastor who will love and nurture them.  When the prophet fires off his words, they may cause collateral damage.  Who wants that?

In years gone by, church members would say to me after I preached a particularly enthusiastic sermon, “I like it when you get on our toes, preacher.”  To be candid, I came to understand that they often meant other people’s toes.

Micah ministered at the same time as Isaiah.  He was lesser known than the “major” prophet who preached alongside him.  We must not assume that a shorter book means a lesser impact.  False prophets told Micah to pipe down.  Nevertheless he preached.

When Micah saw sin, he said something, without concern about whom he offended.  We do everyone a disservice when we ignore sin.  Micah told Israel to turn back to God.  They had to decide whether they would.  If they did not, there would be consequences.

I would prefer to be your pastor today.  With Psalm 32 I want to “instruct and teach you in the way you should go, and counsel you with my loving eye on you.  Do not be like the horse or the mule which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit or bridle or they will not come to you.”  Filled with the Spirit, I urge you to turn from sin and turn back to God until by turning, turning you come round right.

Pray with me:
Father, turn our hearts toward home.  Bring us back to you we pray.  Our hearts have turned away from you.  Keep turning us, please, until we find ourselves face to face with your love.  Then lead us home, we pray.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
This year we focus our Every Day with Jesus readings on Jesus’ story.  With references to Tallowood's Read Through the Bible in 2018 daily reading plan, let's focus our undivided attention on Jesus and follow where he lead. He will not fail. Neither will we!

Joyfully,
