How poetry can transform your hellos
How poetry can transform your hellos
Dear Friend,
Tom is a friendly and enthusiastic participant in one of our Upstream Arts residencies. He loves to give high fives, but he's struggled with high force greetings that overwhelm folks around him.
And then one of our Teaching Artists asked, "How would it feel to give a high five like soft grass?" With this image, it was easy for Tom to say hello with a soft tickle on the palm of the other person's hand.
Now the "high five like soft grass" is a regular part of Tom's repertoire, and a beautiful metaphor that everyone around him can use to adapt and expand how we communicate.
It takes nearly a million dollars to bring this kind of nuanced creative problem-solving to classrooms and communities all over the Twin Cities each year. Huge thanks to the many supporters who rounded up a total of $12,637 for Change Matters in January! Because of you, we have only $52,459 remaining of our funding gap to close before June 30, 2019.
Will you be one of 10 investors this month who make collaborative creative expression possible for individuals like Tom?
With abundant thanks for all that you do!
Julie, Matt, Bree, and everyone at Upstream Arts
P.S. Don't forget to join us for The Art of Me next Thursday, February 28 at 4pm! Artists from Merrick and Upstream Arts have collaborated on a not-to-be-missed multidisciplinary performance.
