Do you ever lose your patience? Exactly, why is God waiting?
Do you ever lose your patience? Exactly, why is God waiting?

2 Peter 3:11-13

Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming.  That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat.  But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.
New International Version (NIV)
Do you ever lose your patience?  Exactly, why is God waiting?  We wonder.   It turns out that God is more patient than we are.  God is patient with a world going its own way because he does not want anyone to be destroyed.  He wants everyone to repent.  Nevertheless, when he comes, he will destroy our broken world, in order to create a new one.
How then shall we live?  If we knew Jesus were coming today, what would we do?  Peter calls believers to holy and godly lives.  We look forward to the day when Christ returns.  Evil will be destroyed.  God will set things right.  So we look forward to new heavens and a new earth filled with righteousness.
Wait?  There will be a  new earth?  Yes.  John tells us the heavenly city of New Jerusalem will come down to the new earth (Revelation 21:1-2).  If we were ethereal spirits flitting around, we might not need a substantial earth.  But because in heaven we will have new bodies, we will live in the heavenly city on a new earth.  What will that be like?  Mercy Me sings, “I can only imagine . . .”  Can you imagine?  Are we really ready?  Whatever we would do if Christ came today, we should do.  John prayed in Revelation 22:20, “Even so Lord Jesus, come quickly!”  Amen!
Pray with me:
Father, we want patience and we would like to have it now.  We know the fruit of your Holy Spirit includes patience.  Remind us that we are not diminished by our waiting.  Thank you for your patience with us.  Today Lord we willingly repent and turn from all that we know is wrong.  Change our minds and our hearts.  Make us a prepared people for the place you are preparing for us.  Your world is groaning, waiting for the children of God to be revealed.  Come quickly, we pray.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
