A look at what's going on at Dordt this month and next.
A look at what's going on at Dordt this month and next.
Today, I sat down with a Dordt College student and development representative Garry Zonnefeld to talk about our upcoming band tour over Christmas break. Reflecting on all of you, our 18,000+ alumni, Garry brought up Colossians 2:2-3, “My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”
May you find the treasures of wisdom and knowledge this Christmas season.

Alumni Spotlight

Justin Van Zee visited campus this week, and we caught up over coffee before chapel. Justin is a breath of fresh air each time I see him. He was on holiday break from his ministry to Cambodian young people in Phnom Penh. He is a passionate follower of Christ committed to intentional discipleship in a country where 95 percent of the population is Buddhist. Please join me in prayer for his ministry and follow his journey through his blog

It's Dressember at Dordt College

During December, Dordt College is partnering with Dressember and the International Justice Mission (IJM) to draw attention to the problem of modern day slavery. More than 35 million men, women, and children live in slavery today, and human trafficking is a growing problem in the United States—even Sioux County is affected. Through this December fundraiser, Dordt students hope to be a voice for the voiceless and inspire the campus and broader community to provide resources IJM needs to educate and bring healing.

Debate team going strong

Dordt debaters Justin Vos and Michael Gomes took 2nd place as a team, and Vos came in 2nd as an individual speaker at the third Parliamentary League of the Upper Midwest (PLUM) tournament on November 10.
Earlier in November, two Dordt teams competed at the Vocal Viking tournament hosted by Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, Minnesota. Both teams made it to the quarterfinal round, and Dordt took home the Michael Dreher Quality Award.

Dordt professors honored

Collaborative work funded by the National Science Foundation and led by Dordt College Statistics Professor Dr. Nathan Tintle has resulted in a new college-level textbook called Introduction to Statistical Investigations.
Professor of Theology Dr. Benjamin Lappenga had his book, Paul’s Language of Ζῆλος: Monosemy and the Rhetoric of Identity and Practice, published by Brill Press. The book explores what Paul means when he talks about zeal.
Dordt College Business Professor Dr. John Visser (pictured) was named this year’s recipient of the prestigious Chewning Award, which honors individuals who "manifest Christ-likeness in their scholarship" and are committed to "the integration of Christian faith and learning."
