Walsh Welcomes New Vice President for Athletics, Athletic Director
After an extensive national search, Nathan Cochran’s enthusiastic leadership style coupled with an amazing professional record of accomplishment set him apart from other candidates. Cochran joins the Cavaliers as Vice President for Athletics, Athletic Director from Xavier University of Louisiana, where he served as Executive Director of Athletics and Recreation. He is an exemplary leader and follower who shares our commitment to furthering the largest leadership laboratory on campus and contributing to the work of building Walsh 4.0 as a cabinet member. New Coaches on Board for STUNT and Sprint Football, Coming to Cav Nation this Fall
The portfolio of competitive athletic programming at Walsh University is growing with the addition of women’s STUNT and men’s Sprint Football. In January, we announced Trisha Hart was appointed the head coach for STUNT, an emerging NCAA competitive sport. She has already begun recruiting women for the team, which will begin competing this fall. Walsh will also be joining the newly formed Midwest Sprint Football League (MSFL) next fall and looks to roster 50 athletes for its inaugural season.

Inaugural Head Coach for Sprint Football Lamarr Stewart
Last week, we welcomed Lamarr Stewart as the inaugural Head Coach for Sprint Football. Stewart has a diverse and extensive coaching history. Over the past ten years, he served as Athletic Director and Head Coach for ASA Football in Brooklyn, NY. He spent the 2021 season as the Linebackers coach at McDaniel College in Westminster, MD, and in 2020 he served as Head Coach at Milford Academy after spending the 2019 season as Defensive Coordinator at ASA. Notably, during his seven seasons as Defensive Coordinator and Linebackers coach at Milford Academy, he helped more than 100 scholar-athletes go on to play Division I football; he mentored NFL draft picks DB’s Blessuan Austin (NY Jets), Ka’dar Hollman (Green Bay Packers) and Malcolm Koonce (LV Raiders); and mentored 16 players who made it to the National Football League. Black History Month Celebration
Join the monthlong celebration of Black History to recognize the heritage, accomplishments, and culture of African Americans in the United States, with events sponsored by Black Student Union, the Office of Multicultural Affairs, the Office of Student Activities, Pre-Law Club and Campus Police, beginning Feb. 1 with “For the Culture: Black History Kickoff” from 6:30–8:30 p.m., in the Barrette Business and Community Center. International Dinner and Cultural Fair
Save the date for the International Dinner and Cultural Fair sponsored by the World Student Organization at 5 p.m., on Saturday, March 25, at the Cecchini Family Health and Wellness Complex inside the Auxiliary Gymnasium. The highly anticipated event celebrates the heritage and diversity of Walsh University’s international community representing 28 different countries. Enjoy a buffet-style international cuisine, a fashion show and entertainment by students representing countries such as Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Ghana, Japan, Nepal, Saudi Arabia, Spain and the UK. Education for Life Colloquium Series
The Education for Life Colloquium offers free public programming on a variety of topics related to Walsh University's mission to educate "in the Judeo-Christin tradition." It explores these topics from both Jewish and Christian perspectives. The Education for Life Colloquium is made possible with generous support from the Wilkof and Nolan families. The next topic in the series to be held on March 23, at 6 p.m., in Barrette Business and Community Center is “How do Jewish and Catholic interpretations of humanity created in the image of God parallel and diverge?” with Rabbi David Komerofsky, Temple Israel, Canton and Dr. Chris Seeman, Chair of Theology, Walsh University. Registration is Open for Walsh University’s Free Community Clinic
Walsh University’s Community Clinic provides physical therapy health and wellness check-ups by an interdisciplinary healthcare team at no charge. This event will be held on Wednesday, April 12, from 8:00 a.m. - 6:20 p.m.; Thursday April 13 from 8:00 a.m. - 6:20 p.m.; and Friday April 14 from 8:00 a.m. - 12:10 p.m. The annual health and wellness check-ups will be performed on adults 18 and older by students in Walsh University’s Doctorate in Physical Therapy and Master’s in Occupational Therapy programs. Dr. Dan Passerini, Executive Director of Cross-Enterprise Operations, contributed to an article in Monday’s Crain’s Cleveland Business about Walsh University’s investment in technology and training that make the University stand out in the STEM and workforce development spaces. The Skilled Technical Workforce program and the Center for Scientific Excellence Laboratory, recognized by the National Science Board in November at the annual Science and Technology Summit at Walsh University, gives undergraduates hands-on research opportunities and helps local companies solve problems and upskill employees. Dr. Mike Petrochuck, Interim Dean of the DeVille School of Business and Professor of Marketing and Healthcare Management, recently contributed to a story in the Canton Repository on the USFL coming to Canton, offering his expertise on how this will give our local community an economic bump. Diane Belfiglio, Assistant Professor of Art and Studio Coordinator, has had her recent watercolor painting, Succulent Shadows III, accepted into the 2023 Ohio Artists Registry Juried Exhibition at the Columbus Metropolitan Library. Jurors selected 36 art works from 419 works submitted. To be eligible to submit work to the show, artists were required to have their work registered on the Ohio Arts Council's Ohio Artist Registry. The show opens Friday, February 3 and runs through Saturday, March 25, 2023. The closing reception will be March 25 from 2-4pm.
