February 2016
Dear Charter School Supporter,
Thank you for supporting and celebrating school choice last month during National School Choice Week!
LAPCS, BAEO, and AFC teamed up to host great school choice events in Lafayette, Baton Rouge, and Greater New Orleans in the last week of January. One of our big goals for these events was to highlight parent voices on the importance of school choice. Through parent roundtables in Lafayette and Baton Rouge, parents from all types of school options, from charters to scholarship schools, from virtual schools to homeschooling, shared compelling stories on why school choice matters for their families.
It's these kinds of stories that we'll need to tell at our upcoming legislative session, which starts in March. Predictably, Louisiana's charter and choice movement will continue to face opposition in the legislature, with threats to charter school authorization, autonomy, funding, and facilities.
We're ready to engage with legislators during session, but we also need YOU to be ready. Here's an easy way to start: sign up to receive our advocacy updates/emails. We're making it super easy for supporters to send emails to their elected officials on charter issues -- we just need you to sign up. We're going to need all of your support to continue our efforts to expand high quality charters and choice options here in Louisiana.
We look forward to continuing to fight for you in the coming months.
Caroline Roemer
Executive Director, LAPCS
