Well-being resources for students affected by violence in Israel and Gaza
We know members of our community are affected by the horrific recent violence and now war in Israel and Gaza. While JHU works to support students on an institutional scale, we hope that at a personal level, you are taking good care of yourself and making use of every resource available to you to navigate these difficult and uncertain times.
In this post on the Well-Being Blog, we've assembled a list of Hopkins-sponsored resources for mental health and student services, as well as coping strategies for navigating these difficult and uncertain times. Important upcoming academic calendar dates
Friday, November 10 at 4:30 p.m. is the deadline to withdraw from a fall semester class (with a "W" on your transcript). It's also the last day to change your grade system (Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory), and the last day to change credits for independent academic work.
Additionally, registration for the spring semester begins at 7 a.m. on the following dates:

- November 10 for seniors
- November 13 for juniors
- November 15 for sophomores
- November 17 for first-year students

Spooky season is in full swing at Homewood, and there are numerous Halloween celebrations for you to enjoy! This Friday, October 27 starting at 6 p.m., the Boo Jay Bash will kick off Halloween weekend with live music, food, trivia, and more. On Tuesday, October 31, swing by any Hopkins Dining location between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. for a special treat. Tuesday will also mark the return of Boo Jay Tuesday Trick or Treat; view the list of campus locations that will be giving away candy and plan your route! Search "Halloween" in Hopkins Groups to see more upcoming events.

Life Design Lab launches fall 2023 Industry Weeks
The Life Design Lab is inviting industry leaders to speak to students about innovations in their fields, what it's like to work in their industry, and how to stand out when applying for internships and job opportunities! October 23–27 is Biotech Week and October 30–November 3 is Data-Driven Week. Visit the Imagine Center website to learn more and register to attend.
Explore scholarship and fellowship opportunities
The National Fellowships Program advises Hopkins students and alums on applications to nationally competitive fellowships, scholarships, and grants. Visit their website to see a list of fellowship opportunities—you can browse by citizenship status, field, and graduation year to find the programs most relevant to you. You can also sign up for weekly fellowships announcements. The next Zoom info sessions on October 31 and November 2 will share information about the Goldwater Scholarship, a top STEM research award for sophomores and juniors.
Career conference for international students
JHU is partnering with 11 other universities and various employers for the International Career Summit, a weeklong conference packed with opportunities to network, learn, and explore opportunities, all curated with international students in mind. The virtual conference begins on November 6 at 2 p.m. ET; register online to attend.

The Hopkins Bloomberg Center is now open in D.C.
JHU's new Washington, D.C. home at 555 Pennsylvania Avenue officially opened its doors with an October 19 dedication ceremony. The Hopkins Bloomberg Center will be a hub of interdisciplinary research, collaboration, and education, with a focus on solving global problems and advancing the common good. Read more about the grand opening in the Hub and learn about opportunities to study on the DC campus through the Global Education Office's immersive Hopkins Semester DC program.
Undergraduate Teaching Laboratories named in honor of Florence Bascom
You may notice a new sign at the entrance of UTL! The building was dedicated on October 12 to recognize Florence Bascom, a trailblazing figure in Earth science, geology, and education, and will now be known as the Bascom Undergraduate Teaching Laboratories. Wellness to go from the SHWC medication vending machine
Did you know the Student Health and Welness Center offers a “wellness-to-go” vending machine? Available to all JHU affiliates, the vending machine features a curated selection of over-the-counter products recommended by SHWC healthcare professionals and available at a discounted price. The vending machine only accepts J-Card as payment. It's located in the SHWC next to the elevator, and is available even when the SHWC is closed. Visit the SHWC website to see the current list of available products.
