Many of us remember the chorus to the song Up on the Rooftop that goes “Up on the rooftop, click, click, click; Down thru the chimney comes old Saint Nick”. As children many of us thought the clicking was the sound from the reindeer hoofs. But reindeer don’t have hooves instead they have foot pads which make little sound. The clicking sound comes from the tendons in their feet stretching across their foot bones. Both reindeer and caribou make this clicking.
Join us on December 15th, for the Friday Night Naturalist program titled Christmas Naturally. This presentation will be a whimsical journey to learn more about nature that is named after December holidays or has become a part of our holiday celebrations. This lighthearted presentation will take you around the world to hear about how different cultures use nature to celebrate the holidays creating stories, myths and even foods. The presentation will end with participants being encouraged to share their beloved holiday traditions with their families.
The presentation will be at the Trout Lake Nature Center, 520 East CR 44, Eustis. A $5 entry/vehicle is charged for all non-members but donations are also appreciated to help with future programs and maintain the Center.

One of the Trout Lake Nature Center traditions to welcome the New Year is a First Day Walk at the Center. It is said that you should begin the first day of each New Year as you wish it to continue. We want to start our year with a relaxing walk with friends along the trails at TLNC. The Trout Lake Nature Center is closed on New Year's Day except for this special walk with friends. Gather some of your friends (human or canine) and join us at 9:30 AM for a walk in the woods. Cost is $5/vehicle but TLNC members enter for free. We will begin the walk from the main parking area outside the Education Building.
