It's been a busy September at Greater Newark Conservancy!

In this newsletter, we'll talk about our ongoing and new volunteer opportunities, some of our Fall events, and our Making Our City Bloom Virtual Celebration which is taking place on October 15, from 6 PM to 7 PM.

Making Our City Bloom

Virtual Celebration

Please join us on October 15 as we celebrate 33 years of Making Our City Bloom with a Virtual Celebration. This FREE event will be to celebrate and honor some of Greater Newark Conservancy's community leaders for their commitment to improving the quality of life and urban areas of Newark. The evening will be filled with entertainment and unforgettable fun!

We have a spectacular event lined up with special guests including the internationally renowned chef, Marcus Samuelsson, hip-hop violinist, Bri Blvk, and Mistress of Ceremonies, ABC-TV news anchor, Tony Yates.

Welcome Back, Volunteers!

Every year in September, Port Authority employees throughout the tri-state area partner with local nonprofits to serve their community in their Annual Renewal through Remembrance, to honor those lost on 9/11. For over 8 years, the Conservancy has been hosting volunteers on this special day of service. This year two teams of employees masked up and practiced social distanced as they devoted themselves to helping the Newark community at our Hawthorne Ave Urban Farm as well as at our Outdoor Learning Center.

This year was particularly special for us because they were our first corporate group to volunteer with us since the beginning of the pandemic! We are now accepting small groups of volunteers (10 or fewer people) If you're interested in volunteering with the Conservancy visit our website to find opportunities, learn about COVID guidelines, and register!

Octoberfest Pop-up Market!

Start your holiday shopping early! Since it looks unlikely that we will be able to have our annual holiday market, you're invited to join us on October 17th for a special Octoberfest Pop-up Market!

Enjoy the fall season in the Conservancy's outdoor Urban Learning Center, while shopping local small businesses. We'll even have some "kidpreneurs"!! You'll learn to cook a delicious fall recipe and can get your ingredients right at our Farm Stand, with a live Family Fun in the Kitchen demo.

COVID-19 Emergency Food Distribution

With the help of CARESPARC Consulting, our Emergency Food Distribution efforts are still going strong! This month we surpassed 500,000 pounds of food packaged and delivered to Newark seniors and families in need.

Volunteers from Rutgers Medical School, Jersey Cares, Horizon, and Newark citizens made this incredible feat possible. Thank you to everyone who has volunteered--we could not have done this without you!

Farm Stand Continues

Our Youth Farm Stand is still up and running!. Get your fill of fresh, locally grown produce at one (or all) of our Farm Stand locations!

Hawthorne Avenue Farm:

3:30pm - 5:30pm on Tuesdays

13th Avenue School Garden:

10am - 1pm on Thursday;

October 1, 15, 29 and November 12

Newark City Hall:

10am - 1pm on Thursday;

October 8, 22, and November 5, 19

Greater Newark Conservancy:

3pm - 6:30pm on Fridays

10am - 1 pm Saturdays,

October 17 and November 14
