September 2017
Alumni and Friends,

Fall is here. It’s always exciting to welcome new students to the College of Human Sciences as they begin a new chapter of their lives. The latest news on campus should reinforce their decision to come to Texas Tech. President Lawrence Schovanec announced this week that Texas Tech University has met the enrollment criteria for designation as a Hispanic Serving Institution. I am proud to be a part of a university that recognizes the need to provide opportunities for our diverse society to pursue higher education.

I also want to update you on Texas Tech’s first international campus: Texas Tech University Costa Rica. I am pleased that the Restaurant, Hotel, and Institutional Management (RHIM) program in the College of Human Sciences is among the degree programs that will be offered in Costa Rica. The degree offerings selected were based on the needs of business/industry, and tourism is a major part of their economy. Our current RHIM faculty members will have the opportunity to serve as visiting professors alongside the full time faculty members on the campus in Costa Rica. Our Lubbock students will also be able to spend a semester there. The program will have a state-of-the-art, eight station food prep lab with a demo station for the instructor. Features will also include a complete production kitchen that will provide food service for the adjacent dining room. Students will gain valuable experience working in hotels through Marriott properties.

I hope you enjoy reading some of the other exciting news we have to share in the stories below.

Go Tech!
