Dear Silver Community,
As the new Chair of the Faculty Search and New Appointments Committee, I wanted to share important news and updates regarding NYU Silver’s search for a dean who will provide intellectual and strategic guidance to advance the School’s DEI mission (you may also read the
March and
April updates for background).
Search Committee
I want to acknowledge and thank former Committee Chair Dr. Aminda Heckman, who so ably guided the search these past few months, and who will remain on the Committee along with Dr. Ernest Gonzales. Dr. Michael A. Lindsey and Dr. Dina Rosenfeld have both rotated off the Committee after serving two-year terms, and I am pleased to welcome two new faculty members to the Committee, Dr. Wen-Jui Han and Dr. Linda Lausell Bryant.
Stakeholder Sessions
Various stakeholder sessions were held this spring to inform the position objectives and the desired qualifications, experience, and personal qualities of candidates, and are now complete. Our external search firm, Spelman Johnson, held nine (9) sessions open to the following stakeholders:
- Adjunct Faculty
- All Staff Council
- Full-time Faculty
- NYU Office of Global Inclusion
- Senior Leadership Team
- Social Justice Praxis Committee
- Students
- Vice Provost For Faculty Engagement and Development
Please know that even if you didn’t get a chance to participate in a session, you can still submit feedback to Spelman Johnson via this
online survey.
A special thank you to the Graduate Student Association for the survey they submitted, which provided particularly valuable information and insight into the needs of the school and our students.
Next Steps
The Search Committee will continue to work over the summer in collaboration with Spelman Johnson so we are well placed to start the next phase of the hiring process for this position in the fall.
We are excited this search is moving forward and welcome your continued engagement and feedback on this process.
Sincerely,
