'Day Camp' Comes to the Kids

Traditionally, kids go away to camp. This year, thanks to funding in part by a grant from the Community Foundation of Howard County, the Boy Scouts of America Sagamore Council was able to bring camp to the kids.

In response to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, which has caused most scout-based events to be cancelled, the locally based Sagamore Council created and packaged 16 fun-filled activities into a single “Day Camp in a Box.” Go to article.

Coronavirus in our Communities

Our lives changed in March 2020, as the state and county governments began responding to a global pandemic that had reached us here in north central Indiana. COVID-19 is a contagious and unpredictable illness, capable of death and disruption. In the midst of this once-in-a-lifetime collective experience, the Community Foundation Serving Howard, Clinton and Carroll Counties was there to help provide a predictable and tangible response to those in need. Community Leadership Grants

The Community Foundation Serving Howard, Clinton and Carroll Counties has received a Community Leadership Grant of $350,000 as part of the seventh phase of Lilly Endowment Inc.’s Giving Indiana Funds for Tomorrow (GIFT VII) initiative. Howard County received a $150,000 grant, and Clinton and Carroll counties each received a $100,000 grant. The Community Leadership Implementation Grants were based on county population. With the grants, the Community Foundation will fund mental health and addiction services navigators in each county. Go to article.

Increase Your Charitable Impact

We have good news – Lilly Endowment’s GIFT match initiative has been extended until Sept. 30, 2021, or until the match is met. For Howard and Carroll counties, gifts to a community endowment unrestricted fund will be matched $2 for every $1 given (the match has been met in Clinton County). These funds support nonprofit organizations through our competitive grants process. For Clinton and Carroll counties, gifts to the Foundation’s other types of funds will be matched $.50 for every $1 given -- $.25 goes to the same fund as the gift and $.25 goes to a community endowment unrestricted fund (the match has been met in Howard County). Giving during the match is a great way to have your charitable impact increased.
