Midterm Exam Studying Tips

Here are some great tips according to the Princeton Review when preparing for midterms:
1. Talk to Your Professor
Ask the right questions to gather information about the exam. Attend office hours.
Read your syllabus and specifically look at the section on exams.
2. Make a Study Schedule
You can spend less time studying for midterms if you have a plan of action. Make a list of topics or questions you need to cover for the exam along with when you will study them. Start studying today, not tomorrow.
3. Stay Positive & Sleep
Don't pull an all-nighter as sleep is the key to success. Create a smart plan, focus on studying, and have a calm morning before your exam. Take a deep breath. You can do this!
4. Ready to Study?
You should start studying by looking at your notes and any prior quizzes or examinations.
5. Create a Study Group.
Maybe your notes are not as good as they could be, but you can team up with a classmate who understands the material better than you. This not only helps you prepare but they get prepared too. Ask them to quiz you on the material.
6. Go to One of the PCEC Student Sucess Centers.
Not sure if you know, but we have free tutoring for you! Check out the Computing and the Engineering Success Centers. Student and faculty tutor in those centers.
7. If you need help with a class that is not a PCEC class, GVSU offers tutoring for other courses!
Once again free tutoring is offered in the GVSU Tutoring Center. You can also request a one-on-one tutor with GVSU Tutoring too.
8. Mix Up Where You Study!
Try studying in different places like your home, Steelcase Library, the Arboretum, or in a coffee shop. This helps your brain stay focused.
For more tips like this read the Princeton Review here. Here are some last-minute ways to pass your midterm exam too.

Mental Health Screening Days

Mental Health Screening Days shine the spotlight on various mental health concerns by educating our campus, spreading a message of hope, and putting lifesaving resources into the hands of those in need.

The University Counseling Center is offering free and completely confidential mental health screenings to all GVSU students, faculty, and staff. This is an opportunity to have a brief and private check-in on your mental health by screening for anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, PTSD
, substance misuse, and eating disorders. Even if you are not experiencing mental health concerns, we encourage you to participate and spread the word!  Mental health screenings only take five to ten minutes to complete.
