This event will be a great opportunity to meet other international students while enjoying pastries from different cultures! We encourage participation in the cultural conversations and ask that you come for the full hour. This event is offered by the Office of Global Services.

This week we’re talking about how and why idioms, slang, and expressions matter so much in spoken English. Stop on by to practice your English skills and just unwind a little from school and homework. English Conversation and Culture is an interactive and informative series that’s hosted by Allen McFarlane, NYU’s assistant VP of Outreach and Engagement, in collaboration with the Center for Student Life. This is a safe space that is open to all to just learn and practice; so, leave your notebooks and laptops at home, just bring yourself!

IEW: How to Get Jobs as an International Student
In celebration of International Education Week, we welcome Marcelo Barros, the author of The International Advantage Get Noticed, Get Hired! He has spent over two decades advising international students looking to work in the US after graduation. In this session, specifically prepared for international students, Marcelo will share strategies that international students of any major can utilize to tilt the balance in their favor and secure more job interviews.

With six comics from around the world (Rufat Agayev, Zarna Garg, Peng Dang, Eman Morgan, TJ, and Jocelyn Chia), and emceed by Ahmed Abdelrahman, you're sure to get lots of laughs. If you’re interested in comedy that resonates with an international experience in the US this event is for you!

IEW: Etiquette Around the World
What’s considered polite behavior in one country may be rude in another. Respectful and culturally appropriate behavior is important wherever in the world we are. Discuss with both international students and students who have returned to NYC from NYU’s global sites abroad as we consider etiquette around the world. We’ll also touch on how our international experiences change us and our behaviors. Snacks and refreshments provided.

Professional connections can be made in a variety of settings. In the United States, interviews or networking can happen over lunch or dinner. Join the Office of Global Services and the Wasserman Center for Career Development for an interactive and informative dining experience to learn how to conduct yourself professionally in these contexts. IEW/Discover NYC: Flushing Queens
As part of the OGS Taste the Nation in the Big Apple series, we will be bringing students to discover some of the best eats in Flushing Chinatown. Flushing is home to the city's largest Chinatown and represents cuisine from Taiwan, China, Korea, India and more! Discover some hidden gems and insider tips as OGS takes you to explore this stirring part of New York. Along with discovering some great eats check out the unique culture that comes from the neighborhood's rich Asian immigrant history.

In celebration of International Student Week, volunteers will be contributing dishes from their native countries and sharing stories about why they chose a particular dish and who they learned their secret recipe from. This exchange of cultures through food will be an amazing opportunity to make new friends and celebrate the holiday season together. Great food, great people, and a whole lot of fun!
