Acts 10: 17-23
17 While Peter was wondering about the meaning of the vision, the men sent by Cornelius found out where Simon’s house was and stopped at the gate. 18 They called out, asking if Simon who was known as Peter was staying there. 19 While Peter was still thinking about the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Simon, three men are looking for you. 20 So get up and go downstairs. Do not hesitate to go with them, for I have sent them.” 21 Peter went down and said to the men, “I’m the one you’re looking for. Why have you come?” 22 The men replied, “We have come from Cornelius the centurion. He is a righteous and God-fearing man, who is respected by all the Jewish people. A holy angel told him to ask you to come to his house so that he could hear what you have to say.” 23 Then Peter invited the men into the house to be his guests. The next day Peter started out with them, and some of the believers from Joppa went along.

New International Version (NIV)
“Where there is no vision, the people will perish!” (Proverbs 29:18 KJV). Pastors sometimes say, “Where there is no vision, the people find another parish.” Vision matters. Where shall we look to find the right vision for our lives and our churches?

God used two separate visions to orchestrate a meeting between Peter and Cornelius. Without the first vision, Cornelius would never have sent his men to Peter. Without the second vision of the sheet, Peter might never have let the men in. God’s timing is impeccable, as always.

God is using visions and dreams to call people from other religions into Christianity. We hear from the Muslim world stories about people who saw a vision of Jesus in their dreams. Christ is crossing the bridges created by those visions to lead Muslims to follow him as their Savior and Lord.

What is our vision of others in our world? God is not willing that any should perish but that all should come to eternal life. So long as we see others as foreigners and outsiders, we may miss God’s greater purpose to save all people. Do we believe that God so loved the world that he gave his only Son so that whoever believes in him should not perish? If we share this good news, God’s vision of salvation will keep others from perishing. Let’s hold fast to God’s vision so that we may share Christ with all the guests inside our gates.

Pray with me:
Be Thou our Vision, O Lord of our hearts. Naught be all else to us save that Thou art.   Thou our best thought by day or by night. Waking or sleeping, Thy presence our light. In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
Our Monday through Friday devotionals will start in the book of Acts this year.  We will not hurry through the book.  We want to see what the Holy Spirit did in the early church so that we may discern what he is doing in us and through us.  Join us for these devotionals as we learn together about our King and his Kingdom in the world.

We also invite you to join us as we read through the Bible. Copies of the reading plan are available at Tallowood Baptist Church, or download your copy here:
