Job 13:15-16
Though he slay me, yet will I hope in him;
    I will surely defend my ways to his face.
Indeed, this will turn out for my deliverance,
    for no godless person would dare come before him!

New International Version (NIV)
                Have we given up on God?  Some have.  Even Job’s friends, who are so sure he is wrong and they are right have abandoned the truth about God.  Perhaps it is because their trust and hope in God were always conditioned upon him doing what they want him to do.  This is always wrong-headed.  Our surprising God refuses to conform to our expectations or get in the box we have made for him.

                The Christian life is not always a steady ascent.  Some days are two steps forward and three back.  Job is fighting his way through the pain and the disillusionment.  Then he has a flash of insight:  “Though he slay me I will trust him.”  Does that sound like our faith?

                Life has many twists and turns.  But God’s love is constant even in our trials.  Sometimes we just need to say what Job says, “Lord, no matter what comes, even if it is my death, with my last breath I will hope in you.”    This simple statement of faith, mixed with a desire to defend himself rsults in his confidence.  “Indeed this will turn out for my deliverance.”  Because our God is a deliverer, whatever we face as his children will result in our deliverance.  So hope in him.  You will not be disappointed.

Pray with me:
Father, we do not know what news this day will bring.  We only ask that nothing would obscure our view of you.  Our eyes are on you Lord.  All that we have learned about you makes us trust you for all that we do not yet understand.  But when we see you face to face, like Job we will know as we are known.  Help us to hold on to hope.  When our grip begins to slip, let your hope hold on to us.  We pray in Jesus’ name.  Amen.
  This year we focus our Every Day with Jesus readings on Jesus’ story.  With references to Tallowood's Read Through the Bible in 2018 daily reading plan, let's focus our undivided attention on Jesus and follow where he lead. He will not fail. Neither will we!

Joyfully,
