Dear Alumni and Friends:
I’m delighted to write my first update to you as Dean of the College of Arts and Science at Miami University. It’s an exciting time for CAS, where we graduate problem-solvers for people and planet.
In this issue, our top story features one extraordinary example of a CAS problem-solver, Dr. William McIntyre ‘68, whose generous gift to the Mallory-Wilson Center for Healthcare Education will support expanded student advising. Dr. McIntyre attributes his successful medical career to his strong training at Miami. We are proud and grateful for his gift.
And that legacy of academic excellence continues today. Each year our amazing new graduates embark on careers that will take them all over the globe. For our part, CAS is evolving to equip them with the skills to tackle tomorrow's challenges. In future updates, I’ll keep you posted on new initiatives to enhance students’ career readiness, expand academic programs in sustainability, strengthen the humanities, and boost faculty research.
Much has changed at Miami since I first arrived here some three decades ago, as assistant professor of history. Miami has new buildings and new fields of study, and underclassmen can now keep cars on campus!
But here’s one thing that hasn't changed: the strength and loyalty of CAS alumni, who are the best ambassadors for the enduring value of a Miami liberal arts education. Getting to know you is one of the privileges of my job, and I am looking forward to meeting as many of you as possible.
Please consider reaching out to help us support our students, whether that be in connecting them with internships and networking opportunities, establishing scholarships, or bolstering our lab and classroom facilities.
Be in touch. Submit your updates, read on for more highlights, and visit our website for many more.
Love and Honor,
Renée Baernstein

Wiley, a physiologist, developed a handgrip device to control blood pressure. He helped recruit athletes for nearly every sport at Miami, served on the Athletic Advisory Board and the Hall of Fame/Cradle of Coaches Committee.
DiDonato was a "force of nature" – energetic, supportive, and inspiring in his roles as chair and professor. He was a true agent of change, always brimming with new ideas to improve teaching, elevate the national and international visibility of Miami's language programs, and modernize our disciplinary fields. Please give to the GRAMELAC study abroad scholarship fund in his name.
