How Sexual Harassment Infects Academia
Join our amazing director Veronica Arreola as she participates in a #ScienceToo talk, How Sexual Harassment Infect Academia. The event will focus on sexual harassment in academic sciences, engineering, and medicine. Veronica and Julienne Rutherford will summarize recent research findings that have played an important role in shaping of new policies at field sites, universities, professional organizations, and funding agencies. 
The event will provide food and drinks before the program. This will be taking place tomorrow, so don't miss out and register now!

L@S GANAS Research Fellowship

Applications for the L@s GANAS Research Fellowship are now live! This is a Two Year fellowship that provides students with valuable hands-on research experience and an opportunity to expand their network in the academic research community. Eligible students can also be offered up to $5,000 and funding to present at local and national conferences. 

If you are a Latinx student or are Pell Grant eligible, this is the perfect opportunity to learn more about the scientific field and what it takes to follow a research based career path.

Mentoring Con Ganas

Applications for Mentors are open! Mentoring Con Ganas offers upper class students an opportunity to help incoming first year and transfer students. Mentors can offer insight into classes, professors, campus events, and provide a support system for new incoming students. This is also a great leadership opportunity for Pre-Health students. 

If you are a STEM student with a minimum of 2.5 GPA, identify as Latinx, will be a UIC student for the entire 2019-2020 academic year, and the 2019-2010 academic year is at least your second year at UIC, then you can apply!

L@s GANAS Study Prep

Are you studying for the MCAT or the GRE and looking for study resources? The L@s GANAS office has two full sets of Kaplan MCAT books for you to use. We also have GRE books from The Princeton Review, Kaplan, McGraw Hill, and Manhattan Prep. 

Likewise, if you're studying for general chemistry and organic chemistry laboratory (or will in the upcoming semester), the office has textbook copies available to you! 

Latino Health Science Enrichment Program  
Are you a UIC incoming first year student that's interested in a Health Profession? If so, the Latino Health Science Enrichment Program (LaHSEP) might be for you. 
This is a six-week summer program that provides students with the opportunity to engage in pre-health workshops, develop chemistry, math and English skills. Students will also learn about the college transition and resources that are available on campus.

Campus Conversation: The Politics of Racial Resentment and the Cost of Health
 
Building on important work that has documented extensive health disparities, the Embodied Inequalities inter-disciplinary lecture series explores why race is so consequential for health outcomes. Sessions will focus on a range of topics including how race matters for access to healthcare and healthcare delivery, how structural and interpersonal racism impact mental, emotional, and physical health, and how scholars, practitioners, and community groups can intervene to improve health outcomes for vulnerable communities.
