Please Register Your Child for the
Middle School Challenge Discovery Field Trip
(for Sixth and Seventh Graders)
Dear Families,
The sixth and seventh grades will be spending Wednesday, September 18, at Challenge Discovery on the University of Richmond’s campus. Much more than a ropes course, Challenge Discovery combines fun problem-solving exercises with achievable physical challenges. The day’s activities are planned to foster confidence, empathy, cross-grade relationships and cooperation.
Students will be dropped off and picked up at Stony Point Shopping Center (old Martin’s parking lot next to Gelati Celesti at 3036 Stony Point Road.) Drop off is at 7:30 a.m. and pick up is at 2:45 p.m. Please stay with your child until a Challenge Discovery teacher chaperone arrives.
Room parents will be circulating a driver sign-up sheet soon. Each student should bring a bag lunch, snack, and a water bottle. Please mark lunches, snacks and water bottles with your child’s name.
Parent drivers for Challenge Discovery, please arrive at the above parking lot by 7:30 a.m. to transport students to and from the University of Richmond. The program ends at 2:30 p.m. and we will return to the Martin’s parking lot around 2:45 p.m. Please remember this is a student-only event.
Students must wear sturdy, closed-toed shoes (e.g. Tom’s are not considered safe for the course). Since we will be outdoors all day and the trip will occur rain or shine, dressing in layers and a hat are recommended. Water, bug spray and sunscreen will be available. Students requiring Epi-pens should be sure to keep them close during the day. Challenge Discovery will cancel the event only for dangerous winds, lightning, or torrential rain.
