Jaden Baxter Named TOWER of Excellence Recipient
| |
Football team captain Jaden Baxter, a dual major in Government and Foreign Affairs & International Relations, has been selected to receive Walsh’s highest honor, the 2023 TOWER of Excellence Award and will represent the Class of 2023 as the Commencement Speaker. The TOWER of Excellence Award is the most prestigious non-academic award given at Walsh University. It is presented to the senior who had during his/her Walsh years displayed outstanding leadership qualities, exemplary interest in co-curricular and extracurricular work, and social and moral behavior that fulfills the mission of Walsh University. Senior Biology/Pre-Dental major Elena Gioiello will be receiving the 2023 Outstanding Student Award at this year’s President’s Dinner on May 5. As Walsh's most prestigious academic honor, the outstanding senior recipient must have earned a very high cumulative grade point average (typically greater than 3.9) and demonstrated interdisciplinary excellence, a high level of intellectual curiosity and a consistent commitment to academic rigor and depth. Associate Chaplain Father Louis Bertrand Lemoine Looks Forward to Contemplative Life as a Monk

Associate Chaplain and faculty member Father Louis Bertrand Lemoine, O.P., a Dominican friar who has been a source of spiritual guidance for individuals on campus as both a teacher and minister for the past three years, will be pursing his calling as a Carthusian monk. He will be with us through commencement. His last day will be Saturday, May 6. A farewell reception will be held on Thursday, April 27, from 4-5:30 p.m., in the David Center Atrium. Read More

Walsh Professor Father Shawn Conoboy Appointed to Work at Vatican

Father Shawn Conoboy, Ph.D., an adjunct professor at Walsh and a member of the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown, has been given the assignment of a lifetime. The Most Reverend David J. Bonnar, Bishop of Youngstown, has released Rev. Conoboy for an assignment at the Vatican where he will work for the section of the Dicastery which interacts with local parishes worldwide to help identify their significant needs and support action plans to resolve various issues. His temporary assignment begins June 1. Read More

Coach Mead Records 900th Career Win in Baseball!

Head Coach Tim Mead, a Walsh alum at the helm of Cavalier baseball for 40 years, recorded his 900th career victory this month! Mead has clinched the G-MAC (Great Midwest Athletic Conference) tournament every year since the University joined the conference during the 2017-2018 academic year. Last season, he led the Cavaliers to a conference championship and an NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) Midwest Regional appearance. He is the winningest coach in Walsh Athletics history. Congratulations Coach! Read More

Walsh hosted some special guests last week! Pictured are (Left to Right): JP Coty (associate of the FIC in Maine), Bro. Henry Monday (FIC), Damen Launder (First year), Bro. Deo Ganyira (FIC), and Madison Smith (senior). The Brothers of Christian Instruction spent the day on campus and attended Holy Mass before visiting Bro. Ernest Paquet, 98, one of the founding fathers of Walsh College, who resides in a local nursing home.

The 12th Annual Student Art Exhibition featuring a variety of artwork created by Walsh University students enrolled in studio art classes is open to the public now through May 1 in the Birk Center for the Arts Gallery. The opening reception held last week was dedicated in honor of Assistant Professor of Studio Art Diane Belfiglio.

Kate Blawas performed her Senior Capstone Recital, the culmination of her hard work, at Christ Presbyterian Church in Canton last Saturday. Her concert included 40 minutes of Bach, Haydn, Chopin, Liszt, Copland, and Debussy on the piano. For the 35-minute singing portion, she performed Faure, Quilter, Vaughan Williams, Schubert and Schumann. Here, she is pictured with Coordinator of Visual and Performing Arts, Professor of Choral Music Dr. Britt Cooper, and Professional Instructor of Music Lisa Madaffer, Kate’s voice and piano professors.

The Walsh Cavalier football team is hosting a blood stem cell donor registry event with Be the Match today, Wednesday, April 19, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. outside the David Center. Take the first step to become a donor, and you could potentially save a life. With support from 250 schools, the Get in the Game program has added more than 155,000 registrants and is responsible for 950 blood stem cell transplants to date. See Flyer
