Before registering for classes here are some steps you can take to help ensure that you are not wasting time thinking about what classes to register for and instead be ready to register for the courses you desire to take:  1. Run your degree audit • A degree audit is essentially an assessment that provides you information regarding the amount of progress you have as it regards being on track to obtain your degree. The audit itself includes the following information: • General course requirements • Degree/concentration requirements • Pre-professional track  • Courses from highschool that are counted as college credit in some capacity  • Courses that are not counted for credit/ toward your degree  • Courses that are marked with a W (have been dropped)  • Electives  • GPA  • All courses you have taken at UIC and credits that have been transferred over if you come from another institution Overall, running a degree audit will provide you with some agency and sense of direction as it regards what you need to tackle to be on track to graduate within 4 years or even earlier depending on the number of credits you have obtained or steps you would like to take moving forward.  1. Meet with your advisors • Now, while a degree audit is helpful to help determine your undergraduate journey as it regards classes, it is still recommended that you take some time to meet with your advisors since they can provide a different perspective, additional knowledge and verify some of the decisions you may have already made after reviewing classes of interest on your own. When meeting with your advisor we suggest that you bring up the following pertaining to class registration: • • What your plans are regarding when you would like to complete your degree  • Responsibilities that may take some time away from your studies  • Classes you would like to take for the upcoming semester(s) • Class time preferences • General Availability if you are aware ahead of time 1. Create a planned schedule for the upcoming semester • Through the UIC XE Registration portal under a tab labeled “Plan Ahead” you have the ability to browse through courses and build your schedule ahead of time based on the classes that you would like to take for a specific semester. Essentially You are pre registering for classes which you will be able to secure once registration time comes along. This tool helps you save time and ensure you are granted the courses you want to take. This tool can only be used up to FIVE times before it is no longer available
