October 1, 2020

Career Navigator News is a biweekly newsletter from your Career Navigator, Heather Schutte.
Glenville-Emmons has joined the
SMEC Career Navigator initiative!

With the school year underway, I have been busy visiting each district to update our strategic plan for 2020-21.  I am also visiting our post-secondary institutions and local employers to promote our partnership - keeping student opportunities top of mind!  Let me know if you are interested in reserving office hours for me in your district!

In the next two weeks...

  • Kick-off Manufacturing Week on the FutureForward™ platform with your participating classrooms
  • Riverland Perkins Consortia meeting with the Operations Team
  • Curriculum mapping with SMEC work-based learning coordinators
  • Strategic planning with SMEC administrators and CTE teachers, regional partners, and post-secondary Deans to help move your vision forward

Expect me to reach out next week to begin scheduling 1:1 meetings at your school for the end of October.
Your School's Experiential Learning Tool

FutureForward™ is a web-based platform that connects local employers to educators and students for experiential, hands-on, and virtual learning. This tool helps teachers with arranging career-connected learning opportunities for students.
FutureForward™ supports distance and hybrid learning with a myriad of opportunities for students to interact with business partners, such as:
  • job shadows
  • classroom lesson plans
  • classroom and virtual speakers
  • mock interviews
  • mentorships
  • internships
  • and more
The upcoming Manufacturing Week (October 5-9) event will be held on FutureForward™ where students and teachers will participate.
Due to restrictions related to COVID-19, in-person visits to manufacturing sites are not possible.  However, students can now view these sites through recorded tours and interviews!
On the FutureForward™ platform, local and regional employers have highlighted what they do, what coursework is relevant in high school, career options and pathways available, and the next steps to pursuing a career in manufacturing.

Contact me to participate in Manufacturing Week.  I will provide training on how to access videos like this on FutureForward™.
