Career Navigator News is a bimonthly newsletter from your Career Navigator, Jami Schwickerath.

Happy May and last few weeks of School!
It will be summer before we know it. Aaahhh.
Certified Nurse Assistant students have been selected and are doing the eligibility process of getting statements of recommendations from teachers and community members. We have still been seeking out host nursing homes so if you have any in mind, please let me know.
ZED Coordinator, Kay Frick, will be leaving Friday and my well wishes go off to her and her future!
Kasson-Mantorville
Over the last several months, I have assisted Kasson-Mantorville's CTE programs to connect with Minnesota State College Southeast's SLAM program. Students Learning Advanced Manufacturing (SLAM) programs are designed for students to learn manufacturing while in an educational setting. This is a program funded by the National Science Foundation. Students have the opportunity to learn blue print reading, drafting and design, among other skills, and will be able to get training on those manufacturing jobs before the students' high school graduations. This program will launch in Fall 2021 and we are excited to see the first group of students begin.

Robert Olson was one of several CTE teachers from the ZED District who took part in the discussion SSC and Perkins coordinated in regards to understanding options for obtaining trade and industry licensure. We were able to hear from Kurt Helgeson, Department Chair for Technology, from St. Cloud State University to share what it would look like to get the certification for trade and industry while in process of obtaining a Master's Degree. Tim Barrett, Trade and Industry specialist, from the State of Minnesota, shared a flowchart to know which route is best to take - graduate school or PESLB Portfolio.
Stewartville
The discussion was had again with the Administration Team about students and summer. Last year, we also had a discussion about hosting a "Summer Job Fair" but it did not work out with Covid-19 and attempting to be virtual. This year, we addressed it again and are moving forward. The "Summer Job Fair" will be Thursday, May 20th from 11:00am-12:30pm. Students will visit with these companies over their lunch hours to have an "Elevator Speech" option with companies of interest. Businesses are so eager to participate that some have called and asked to join. The goal is to allow all 9th-12th graders a chance to see what jobs are available, possibly obtain work, and gain skills in those areas. It is also to fill the need several employers have with hiring gaps. Businesses such as Kwik Trip and Casey's will be there but so will companies such as Geo-Tech, McNeilus, and Schwickert's Tecta America. The Stewartville Chamber has become a partner and is marketing this as well.

Byron

I will be meeting with the two art teachers from Byron and one from Pine Island this Friday as we are in the last quarter of their year to complete their PELSB Portfolio. Over the last school year, they have been not only teaching art courses, but also collecting artifacts to be used in their Portfolios. It is now time to gather and organize what they have collected and begin the process of checking off competencies. Congratulations ladies on making it this far and together we will all finish strong!
THANK YOU!
Friday, May 14th, is the first ever FutureReady CTE Community & Industry Partner of the Year Award ceremony, which will be held virtually from 7:30am -8:30am. We are excited to take a moment to show our appreciation to all of our community and industry partners. With all of their support to their communities while balancing the day-to-day operations of their business, we are ever so grateful! 15 businesses that were nominated will also be recognized virtually. Anyone and everyone is welcome to join us and learn what these companies have done.
