Get Benefits Support During Winter Close
The university’s winter close will occur Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2016 through Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017. If you have questions about your benefits during the closure, including medical or retirement, please contact the University HR Service Team, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.–Noon. In-office appointments are not available during the winter close. The Service Team will be closed on the designated university holidays (12/23, 12/26 and 1/2/17).
New Medical ID Cards
If you switched medical plans for 2017 during Open Enrollment or are a pre-65 Aetna EPO member, your new medical ID card should arrive by the end of the 2016 calendar year. If you do not receive your new card and need medical care on or after January 1, 2017, keep a copy of your benefits Confirmation Statement as proof of coverage until you receive your new card.
Note: VSP (vision) and Delta Dental do not send member cards.
Medicare Deadline on December 1
If you enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan for 2017, or changed from one Medicare Advantage plan to another, you must submit the Medicare Advantage form to the University HR Service Team by December 1, 2016. Late forms will not be processed until January 4, 2017 and may cause a delay in your health plan coverage.
IRS Form 1095 Electronic Delivery Deadline on January 6
Like last year, Stanford is required to send an IRS Form 1095 to any retiree who worked full time in 2016 or was under age 65 and enrolled in a Stanford self-insured medical plan. The Form 1095 shows how you were covered for medical insurance in 2016. You’ll receive the Form 1095 at the end of January by U.S. mail unless you elect to receive it electronically. E-delivery allows you to view, download, or print your form from Stanford’s ACA 1095 portal. To receive your Form 1095 electronically, update your delivery preference in the ACA 1095 portal any time before January 6, 2017.
