New Parent Newsletter - May 2

To help keep newly enrolled families on track, we are pleased to share the second issue of the New Parent Newsletter, which is a digest of important and timely items from the New Parent Page at marist.com/newparent and around our community.
You will receive the New Parent Newsletter every other week through May 30. After that date, you will receive the June, July, and August editions of the Weekly Way Newsletter, which is sent to all current parents.
Previous issues of the newsletter and full details regarding the information below are available on the New Parent Page, which we will continue to update through the summer.
War Eagle Welcome: Sunday, May 5
We look forward to seeing you for a “War Eagle Welcome” this Sunday, May 5 rain or shine. Please pay close attention to your family’s session time: 1-1:30 p.m. for high school students and 2-2:30 p.m. for middle school students. A few final notes:
  • Parking will be in the main lot, and we will have signage in place to direct you to check-in.
  • Peer leaders will exchange contact information directly with their peer kids at the event. Please be sure your child is prepared to provide the best cell phone number (theirs or yours) for summer communications.
  • Attire is casual. Students will play games on the field, so we recommend comfortable clothing (t-shirts, shorts, etc.), sneakers, and sunscreen. Parents will be in the shade of the Arcade.
  • The Marist Campus Store will be open. Please stop and shop as you depart campus, so we can begin each session in a timely manner.
  • Lastly, this event is for new students and parents only to help manage the volume of attendees. Kindly make other arrangements for siblings.
  • Questions or cannot attend? Contact the Admissions Office.
From the Marist Clinic: Required Health Forms
Magus Health account access is coming soon! If your family is new to Marist, you will receive an email within the next few days from Magnus Health Student Medical Record System titled: “Marist School Clinic - Welcome to Your Magnus Health Account.” This email will contain your username and password information. You can then log in to Magnus Health to access your child’s account and complete the required Georgia High School Association (GHSA) health forms and health-related tasks. If you have a Magnus account for a current Marist student, your newly enrolled child will be added to your profile.

Importantly, if your child plans to participate in upcoming fall sports tryouts and performing arts auditions (see below), they must have three GHSA forms on file before the first day of tryouts, including the pre-participation physical evaluation form.

Required Summer Assignment for Rising 7th Graders
Foundations teachers and House Leaders will be using the book “7 Habits for Highly Effective Teens” by Sean Covey with students during the academic year. The goal is to use this text to help 7th graders learn personal responsibility and form good habits at Marist and beyond. All rising 7th graders are required to obtain a physical copy of this book and read it over the summer to prepare for discussions and exercises during the school year. The book is available for purchase on Amazon.
Required Summer Assignment for Rising 7th Graders
On Orientation Day in August, each 7th grader will receive a specially designed Marist academic planner. Your student account will be billed for the cost (about $12). This planner is different from the smaller planner sold in the Campus Store. Please do not purchase a different planner for your child, as we require all 7th graders to use this planner. Teachers and House Leaders will reinforce use of this planner as an organizational tool throughout the school year. Students in other grades can use any planner they choose.
2024 Summer Camps
Registration continues for a wide variety of Marist summer camps. We are pleased to offer 16 sports-related camps, in addition to theater, broadcasting, music technology, and more. New camp offerings this year include “Introduction to Critical Thinking for Middle School Students” and “Middle School Girls Science” camps.
