Executive Director Update

We are extremely grateful that the spirit of teamwork is alive and well in our community. Now more than ever, we see just how impactful collaborative participation can be and are proud to celebrate the official groundbreaking of the Bryson Park/Hood Road Realignment Project this past October. This project promises a safer and more navigable Lilburn for all, and we look forward to celebrating Lilburn’s continued transformation into a safer, more navigable hub for commerce, community and businesses to grow and thrive.
Safety has always been a priority for the CID in more ways than one. We are proud to support the local police department through the funding of Flock cameras in the district and could not be more appreciative of the hardworking men and women of the Lilburn Police Department (LPD) for their dedication to safety and continued community support.
As we move forward, we will continue to keep YOU in mind as we aim to improve the quality of life for residents and business owners.
Tad Leithead

Bryson Park/Hood Road Realignment Officially Begins!

Construction for the Bryson Park/Hood Road Realignment project commenced October 25 with a groundbreaking ceremony at the park entrance. Representatives from the state of Georgia, Gwinnett County and the City of Lilburn, along with the Lilburn CID and other local, contributing entities celebrated their progress with residents at the entrance to Bryson Park.

The ceremony included addresses from David Cassell, Strategic Program Administrator, State Road & Tollway Authority; Curt Thompson, State Transportation Board Georgia Congressional District 7; Ben Ku, Gwinnett County Commissioner for District 2; Tim Dunn, mayor, City of Lilburn; Yoon-Mi Hampton, councilwoman, City of Lilburn and Tad Leithead, executive director of the Lilburn Community Improvement District (LCID).

This project is a testament to the collaborative strength of local partnerships and the power of teamwork. The LCID, in partnership with the City of Lilburn, developed the design of the project. The project’s construction funding consisted of a $1 million grant from the Georgia Transportation Infrastructure Bank (GTIB), $2.2 million from the City of Lilburn and $300,000 from LCID. Additional funding for this $4.3 million project came from the Gwinnett County Transportation Department and a GDOT Local Maintenance Improvement Grant (LMIG).
Lilburn CID is extremely grateful for the partnerships that have brought this project to life.

Interview With City of Lilburn Police Chief Chris Dusik

Chris M. Dusik, Chief of Police for the Lilburn Police Department (LPD), officially accepted his position September 2023, but worked for the City of Lilburn for 18 years as Operations Division Commander, Special Operations Division Commander, Criminal Investigations Section Supervisor and Multi-Jurisdictional Special Response Team Commander.
“The City of Lilburn is a tight-knit community with a small-town feel. Residents and business owners can get to know each other in a way that is not always possible in a larger city,” said Dusik. “We are fortunate to have supportive city leadership in our City Manager, Mayor and Council. The city is very public safety-minded, and that makes the city a wonderful place to live, work and play.”
“My main goal is to ensure the citizens continue to enjoy residing and working in a place where they feel safe,” continued Dusik.
One of the strategies implemented to support district-wide safety and security is the implementation of Flock Safety, a security camera system, to assist the force in obtaining evidence and monitoring traffic. The camera system was funded in partnership with LCID, and last year, the CID funded four additional cameras to add to the existing network. “Flock Safety cameras are a must for public safety,” said Dusik. According to Dusik, area businesses often do not have operational camera systems, or do not know how to access their own systems. This poses significant challenges to the LPD during investigations at or near a place of business or directly involving a business. The inclusion of Flock mitigates these blind spots and facilitates more timely resolutions that prevent continued crime from the same individuals. LPD’s safety initiatives do not stop there. Under Dusik, the police force emphasizes increased visible patrols and quick response in times of crisis.
“Community outreach is critical for a police department to be successful. Community engagement and public trust in our agency is just as important as enforcing laws,” said Dusik.
Recently, LPD received a U.S. Department of Justice COPS Hiring Program grant to fund a new position to expand the department’s Community Outreach. Currently, LPD has one Community Outreach and Crime Prevention Coordinator, Corporal Mike Johnson. Dusik believes the addition of a second position will continue to improve the rapport between the LPD and the community.
“We have had extremely positive feedback with our current Community Outreach Officer, and one of my main goals is to ensure that all members of our community benefit from the expansion of our Community Outreach.”
For example, Chief Dusik cites that many in the local community do not speak English as their native language. One of the initiatives of LPD’s Community Outreach section is to eliminate the language barriers within the community. An additional staff member, particularly one with the ability to communicate in multiple languages, would help support a positive dialogue between LPD and Lilburn citizens and businesses.
The LPD continues to grow in other ways, too.

This November, LPD officially welcomed Officer Victor Pereya-Zavala to their team. Officer Zavala, a recent graduate of the Georgia Public Safety Training Center Police Academy, interned with LPD while he was a student-athlete at Georgia State University.
LCID is grateful for our continued positive relationship with LPD. Learn more about LPD and contact them through the official webpage here.
