License renewal and CE deadline - June 30th, 2026
The License Renewal Window is Open: |
Ready to renew? Not so fast – read this first: |
If you’ve been a real estate broker for more than two years in Indiana, you know that you must complete twelve hours of Continuing Education each year by June 30th. But 2026 isn’t just another CE cycle – it’s also a license renewal year with the same June 30th deadline.
This week you should have received an email notice from the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency (PLA) announcing that licensees are able to renew online using the new MyLicense One (ML1) system. (Check out this Guide to MyLicense One for more.)
Indiana has a three-year real estate license renewal cycle for all brokers, even if you’re new to the business and have been licensed less than three years. Don’t put your license at risk: Make sure you’ve completed all required CE hours before you renew your license and get everything done by June 30th (and don’t wait until the last minute – technical difficulties or website disruptions aren’t valid excuses for missing the deadline).
IAR CEO Mark Fisher runs through the license renewal and CE requirements – and how REALTOR® members can take advantage of member benefit CE through RECP – in this video explainer:

Don't renew without finishing your CE – and other details: |
- If you didn’t get a renewal notice, please make sure your email address on file with the PLA is correct. The PLA uses your email to send renewal notices and other important updates – you could be in the dark if they’re still using an old address or personal email from before you joined your current brokerage.
-
Again, all brokers past their post-licensing period must complete twelve CE hours a year, or 36 hours of CE during each three-year licensing cycle before renewing their license for another three years.
- Don’t renew your license until you have completed all 36 hours of CE: You may be planning to complete your remaining hours and think, “What’s the harm in going ahead and getting the renewal submission out of the way?”
- Here’s the issue: The renewal application requires you to confirm that you’ve completed your CE – clicking ‘yes’ before you finish (even if you have time before June 30th to do so) means you haven’t been truthful on your application and could face a fine of at least $250, and possibly additional requirements from the state.
- If you’ve missed hours from the 2023-24 or 2024-25 years, just make sure you complete 36 hours total; you still may receive a fine for not completing CE within the required timeframes, but penalties will be nominal.
- Remember: State law now requires PLA to conduct annual audits of CE compliance.
-
Plan ahead and don't wait until the last day or two to renew: The PLA website may struggle to process thousands of last-minute submissions – and there’s no grace period due to technical difficulties. It’s still the licensee’s responsibility to complete and submit their renewal by the deadline.
-
As a member of the Indiana Association of REALTORS®, your dues already include member benefit CE from RECP – your required twelve hours is available online and on demand, so you can complete your requirement from the comfort and convenience of your home or office (and even catch up from previous years).
- The license renewal application fee remains $60, and fines start at $50 for late applications.

-
The annual 12-hour CE requirement doesn’t kick in for two years (while you complete the 30-hour post-licensing course).
- You may not have any CE to complete before June 30th or you may only need to complete the current twelve hours.
-
If you have two years or less in the business and don’t have a CE requirement, answer ‘yes’ to the final question on the license renewal (“Have you completed the required continuing education to renew?”)

- We’re less than 100 days away from June 30th, but there’s still time to tackle any outstanding CE requirements and submit your license renewal.
- REALTORS® have access to member-benefit CE (online and on-demand) through RECP.
- RECP provides high-quality content from industry experts that meets CE and other professional requirements (like NAR’s Code of Ethics and Fair Housing requirements), included in your IAR membership.
-
RECP also offers a download guarantee to confirm your CE completion and dedicated support at 1-800-742-4067 or via info@recp.org (you won't be on your own trying to track down completion certificates)
- RECP even allows access to previous courses for a nominal fee to help you catch up on hours you may have missed in the previous two annual cycles.
- Click on the image below to get started with this year's twelve-hour member benefit package.
-
IAR members, log in to RECP after clicking below but do not purchase the 12-hour member benefit courses. Email info@recp.org if you need help logging in.

So what are you waiting for? |
If you still haven't started this year's CE, don't worry: If you get started this week, you can tackle an hour a week until June 30th with time to spare...that's not so daunting. But don't wait much longer and risk the cost of a suspended license or fine (and the $50 late fee for submissions after 11:59PM on the 30th).
|
You can also sign up for two hours of CE while registering for the annual IAR Summer Summit, June 1-2 in South Bend; click the banner for details: |
