Acts 15: 30 - 35
30 So the men were sent off and went down to Antioch, where they gathered the church together and delivered the letter. 31 The people read it and were glad for its encouraging message. 32 Judas and Silas, who themselves were prophets, said much to encourage and strengthen the believers. 33 After spending some time there, they were sent off by the believers with the blessing of peace to return to those who had sent them. [34] 35 But Paul and Barnabas remained in Antioch, where they and many others taught and preached the word of the Lord.

New International Version (NIV)
Five fledglings are in the nest. Four decide to spread their wings and soar away. How many are left?

Answer: five. Why? Because there’s a difference between deciding and doing! What have we promised God we will do?

The church in Jerusalem not only decided to write a letter. They wrote it and sent it.  Imagine the weight that was lifted from the new believers when they found that they were not bound to keep all the ceremonial and calendar laws of the Old Testament. If the letter were not enough, the prophets Judas and Silas, messengers from Jerusalem, encouraged and strengthened the believers in Antioch. The church, in turn, blessed them with peace. Barnabas and Paul remained in the city and joined many others in teaching and preaching the word of the Lord.

What have we decided to do for God? Have we done it, yet? Tozer wrote, “Delayed obedience is disobedience.” On the other hand, obedience leads to great blessings for us and others. Encouragement becomes contagious. Others grow into leadership as we equip the saints to do the work of ministry.

Pray with me:
Father, remind us today of what you have asked us to do. Bring to mind any unfulfilled promises we have made to you. “Jesus we have promised to serve you to the end. Oh give us grace to follow, our Master and our Friend.” Forgive us for knowing the right thing to do and failing to do it. Show us your will. Strengthen us to do it. Now. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Our Monday through Friday devotionals will start in the book of Acts this year.  We will not hurry through the book.  We want to see what the Holy Spirit did in the early church so that we may discern what he is doing in us and through us.  Join us for these devotionals as we learn together about our King and his Kingdom in the world.

We also invite you to join us as we read through the Bible. Copies of the reading plan are available at Tallowood Baptist Church, or download your copy here:
