Acts 4:11-12
Jesus is
“‘the stone you builders rejected,
    which has become the cornerstone.’
Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”
New International Version (NIV)
Do not ask if you do not want to know!  When the high priest and his cronies asked Peter and John how they had healed a lame man, Peter answered their question honestly:  "In the name of Jesus!"

A recent survey said people want to know the truth.  In fact, the survey said, people go to church because they want to hear the truth.  Peter's early sermons were steeped in the scriptures.  At Pentecost he preached from the book of Joel.  Here he ties into Psalm 118, saying Jesus is the rejected stone who has become the cornerstone.

If we take Acts 4:12 seriously (and I think we should), then Jesus Christ is the only possible path to salvation.  Not only is his name the name above every other name, but Jesus is the only name by which we must be saved.  Peter spoke from conviction and garnered the undivided attention of the religious aristocracy of Israel.  If Peter was right, they had been wrong to crucify Jesus.

Do we want to know the truth?  His name is Jesus.  We can believe and be saved.  Our gospel is not just about removing our sins but about ushering us into God's Kingdom which is at work all around us.  By God's grace we build our whole lives around the Cornerstone, who is Jesus.  People either reject him or receive him.  How about us?
 Pray with me:
Father, we thank you today for the great cosmic reversal.  The rulers rejected your Son but he has become the Savior of all who believe in him.  Lord, we believe.  Build your kingdom in us we pray.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
I want to invite you to join me in memorizing 52 passages this year from the 2017 set of Fighter Verses.  You can find the Fighter Verses App at the App Store on your phones or via this link  http://fighterverses.com/the-verses/fighter-verses/As we study the Bible this year, let's look at each text and learn what it says about God.
