Acts 7: 26-32
26 The next day Moses came upon two Israelites who were fighting. He tried to reconcile them by saying, ‘Men, you are brothers; why do you want to hurt each other?’ 27 “But the man who was mistreating the other pushed Moses aside and said, ‘Who made you ruler and judge over us? 28 Are you thinking of killing me as you killed the Egyptian yesterday?’ 29 When Moses heard this, he fled to Midian, where he settled as a foreigner and had two sons.
30 “After forty years had passed, an angel appeared to Moses in the flames of a burning bush in the desert near Mount Sinai. 31 When he saw this, he was amazed at the sight. As he went over to get a closer look, he heard the Lord say: 32 ‘I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.’ Moses trembled with fear and did not dare to look.

New International Version (NIV)
My dad once told me, if two dogs are fighting, do not get between them. Peacemaking is not for the faint of heart. After Moses saved his fellow Israelite from the Egyptian, he found two other Israelites fighting. He came between them, but one let him know that everybody knew he had killed the Egyptian. So Moses ran for his life to Midian where God gave him a family.

In our desperately polarized world, even people from the same families and countries are fighting against each other. Jesus' followers must not join them. Remember our Lord said, “A house divided against itself will fall.” Paul told the believers in Rome, “As far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” Unfortunately, it doesn’t all depend on us. Have you ever been bitten, while trying to help others stop fighting?

What is the alternative? We can close our eyes and ignore the strife. Or we could engage others and join the fight. But God says, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the sons of God." Israel didn’t want Moses to help, but God did. After forty years, God found Moses in the desert of Midian. If you have given up on helping others, remember that God has not given up on you. When you least expect it, he may track you down. Keep your eyes open today for burning bushes and the like. God intends to bring peace to our world and he is not finished with us yet!

Pray with me:
Father, for too long we have longed for peace while others choose war. Help us not to grow weary in well-doing today. Remind us that if we continue to plant seeds of peace, we will see a harvest. Bless all the peacemakers today. Remind them they are your children. Thank you for giving us peace. Help us to spread it today. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
Our Monday through Friday devotionals will start in the book of Acts this year.  We will not hurry through the book.  We want to see what the Holy Spirit did in the early church so that we may discern what he is doing in us and through us.  Join us for these devotionals as we learn together about our King and his Kingdom in the world.

We also invite you to join us as we read through the Bible. Copies of the reading plan are available at Tallowood Baptist Church, or download your copy here:
