James 5:19-20
My brothers and sisters, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring that person back,  remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of their way will save them from death and cover over a multitude of sins.
New International Version (NIV)
I yelled at one of our sons, right in front of church members.  People were shocked.  We served at a church next to a busy intersection.  Our young son darted toward the road and I shouted word of warning.  I was afraid he would be harmed.  Thankfully, he stopped in his tracks.  I took his hand and held tightly as we walked beside the street.

Of course yelling as an expression of anger is wrong.  But what if we are trying to save a life?  How loud is allowed or too loud?  James reminds the first century believers that others are darting into disaster spiritually.  It is not loving nor is it responsible to ignore the danger they face.

In the end we must decide:  would we rather be liked or would we rather save a life?  Our answers to these questions really matter.  Today, if you see a friend about to jump off a cliff, or walk away from the Lord, speak up, and save them the pain.  If someone corrects you, bless them.  Correction and instruction are the way to life.
Pray with me:
Father, thank you for your kindness that leads us to repentance.  Give us the gift of accountability today.  When we are wrong, lead someone to call us out and correct us.  Thank you God for stopping at nothing to save us.  Make us instruments of your peace, we pray.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
This year we focus our Every Day with Jesus readings on Jesus’ story.  With references to Tallowood's Read Through the Bible in 2018 daily reading plan, let's focus our undivided attention on Jesus and follow where he lead. He will not fail. Neither will we!

Joyfully,
