This week’s teaching tips have been provided by Student Health Services. You are not alone! The UNCG Counseling Center and the Dean of Students are resources to help students AND to help you help students. And we offer several trainings to increase your capacity to support our students' mental health! We would love to meet you in one of these trainings or provide one for your department!
A 1.5 hour training focused on suicide prevention and referral for crises, tailored to UNCG, offering UNCG specific resources. This in-person (or virtual) training creates opportunities for Q&A and discussion, troubleshooting, etc.
Skills based training course designed to teach participants to identify, understand and respond to mental health and substance concerns broadly.
MHFA is a multi-part, 8 hour course. There is a 2 hour self-study portion, followed by virtual or in-person sessions. MHFA is also tailored to UNCG procedures and resources.
Recovery Zone Training: This self-paced online Canvas Course is designed to create allies for students in recovery from substance use and other drug addictions.
UNCG Culture of Care Website: Includes information for faculty and staff on common mental health concerns and how to embed mental health and well-being into the classroom.
Mental Health Syllabus Statement: Health and well-being impact learning and academic success. Throughout your time in college, you may experience a range of concerns that can cause barriers to your academic success. These might include illnesses, strained relationships, anxiety, high levels of stress, alcohol or drug problems, feeling down, or loss of motivation. Student Health Services and The Counseling Center can help with these or other issues you may experience.
