Hay Market Report - November 22, 2021

In Wisconsin, prices are steady to strong for dairy quality hay. Western markets are reporting higher prices. The next Hay Market Demand and Price Report for the Upper Midwest will be posted by Tuesday, December 14, 2021.

Heart of the Farm Coffee Chat: Tax Planning

December 2 | 12:00-1:00PM

2021-22 Coffee Chats will resume on the 1st Thursday of the month starting in December 2021 and running through February 2022.
Katie Wantoch, UW-Division of Extension, County Educator in Dunn County and representatives from GreenStone and Compeer Financial Farm Credit Service will discuss and answer tax preparation issues and concerns. As we all know, the month of January often brings thoughts of taxes and tax preparation. This discussion will focus on issues specific to farm tax returns so those listening may gain a better understanding of what to think about regarding farm tax preparation and be able to ask better questions with their tax advisor. 

Virtual Soil, Water, Nutrient Management Update Meetings

The 2021 Soil, Water, and Nutrient Management Meetings will be virtual. Two sessions are offered. There will be four speakers, with 5-minute breaks between speakers. CEUs will be available for Certified Crop Advisers (2.0 in Soil and Water Management, and 1.5 in Nutrient Management). The event is free of charge.

FDL County Dairy-Forage Day

December 9 | 11:00AM-2:00PM

Presentations include: Corn Silage Fermentation Alters Nutritive Value, Non-Nutritional Factors in Dairy Forages, and Maximizing Quality & Quantity of Forages. $20 per person 

Farm Management Friday: Agriculture Pricing, Leasing & Contract

December 17 | 11:00AM-12:00PM

What makes for a fair, robust, and resilient ag or farm lease agreement? The first half of this web meeting includes an example dialog between land/farm owner and renter as they negotiate the specific details of a lease agreement, highlighting important resources, tools and considerations to inform a resilient and robust agreement that serves both parties. The second half of the webinar is a discussion of specific leasing topics. 

Nutrient Management Training

January 4 | 10:00AM-3:00PM

The University of Wisconsin-Madison Nutrient and Pest Management Program is offering virtual training for farmers interested in writing their own nutrient management plans. This training will provide both the basics of nutrient management and an introduction to SnapPlus. Please register online at least three days in advance of the training date you plan to attend.

Private Pesticide Applicator In-Person Test Session

January 11 | 8:30AM-12:30PM

Fond du Lac County is offering in-person exam sessions for those who choose to complete the training online or the self-study option. Exams are held at the UWO Fond du Lac Campus on the second Tuesday of the month from 8:30 am – 12:30 pm. Seating is limited. Available dates are January 11, February 8, and April 12.

Private Pesticide Applicator In-Person Training

March 8 | 9:00AM-3:00PM

Fond du Lac County is offering one in-person training session with the certification test at the UWO Fond du Lac Campus. Online and self-study training options are also available. Additional information.
