On Thursday, May 18th, at around 11:20 p.m., the NYU Department of Campus Safety received a report of an intimidation/hate crime that started at approximately 11:15 p.m. in Union Square Park, and continued to University Hall at 110 East 14th Street, in Manhattan.
The complainant, an NYU student, reported that while they were sitting in the park listening to music, an unknown person walked up to them and put their arm around them. Upon realizing that the student was listening to music in Hebrew, the unknown person cursed at the student and used a slur. The student left the park, but the unknown person followed them. The student sought shelter inside University Hall where a Campus Safety Officer was able to get the unknown person to leave.
No injuries were reported and a police report was filed with the NYPD.
Description of Suspect: The suspect is described as male-presenting, with a light complexion and reddish/auburn hair, a short beard and wearing a brown leather jacket, gray sweater and dark red pants. A picture of the suspect can be found below.
