To the Silver Community,
We want to share an update related to the search for a dean who will provide intellectual and strategic guidance to advance the School’s DEI mission. As a community, we know this is one of NYU Silver’s Action Against Racism steps, one which is key to forging progress at the School. The School’s Faculty Search and New Appointments Committee (FSNAC) and the Dean are presently engaging an external search consultant firm that will assist in clarifying the charge of the new role, in ways that are complementary with our Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Richeleen Dashield, and other DEI leaders at Silver. The FSNAC will work with the School’s Social Justice Praxis Committee (SJPC) and others in our community to listen and incorporate viewpoints that will inform this charge. Once the position has been clarified, the external search firm will then assist the FSNAC in national outreach and in identifying leading candidates for the School’s consideration.
Many of you have expressed interest in and concern about how this position is designed and filled. Please know that we are invested in thoughtfully constructing this position in collaboration with stakeholders and completing a successful search. We look forward to keeping the Silver community informed as this process moves forward.
