NSCM Research and Creativity Colloquium Series
Dr. Yu is working on a new initiative in the Nicholson School, The NSCM’s colloquium series, focusing on featuring research and creative work completed by NSCM faculty and graduate students. Held 2-3 times each semester, these talks will provide opportunities to share the latest achievements and enhancing scholarly and creative collaboration. The colloquium series will highlight personal or team achievements and help form a positive and productive culture within NSCM.
Dr. Yu plans to start the NSCM Colloquium Series in March 2021. If you are interested in participating, please let Dr. Yu know before February 22, 2021.

Reminder: NSCM yearly department/area award nominations closes Feb. 12
Happy New Year! Once again NSCM will be rewarding its faculty, staff and graduate students with annual awards this spring. The NSCM Awards and Recognition Committee kindly requests that you nominate your colleagues, support staff and graduate students for one of the awards. The nomination form is now open (early access) and nominations officially begun on Monday, January 11.
The nomination process closes on Friday, February 12, 2021. The process is easy, specifically designed to celebrate all of us as peers. No additional backup/support information will be necessary once the nomination information is completed and submitted. Self-nominations for all awards are acceptable. Nominations are based on the individual opinions of excellence of those nominating colleagues. Due to the diversity of our school's disciplines, the committee purposely avoided specific definitions of excellence. The Awards and Recognition Committee, in determining the final awards, will respect this diversity. Any specific activities represented by these nominations should have occurred between May 2020 and May 2021. Outstanding Staff Award (all staff categories) 7. Outstanding Grad Student Research/Creative Activity Award 8. Outstanding Grad Student Teaching Award The nomination, consideration, and selection of the faculty and staff awards will be facilitated by the NSCM Awards and Recognition Committee. The nomination, consideration, and selection of the graduate student awards will be facilitated by the NSCM Graduate Committee. The considerations and selection of the Outstanding Contribution to Inclusive Culture will be facilitated through the committee spearheaded by the Assistant Director of Inclusive Culture. The timeline for nomination, consideration, selection and presentation of these awards follows: 1. Nominations by Feb. 12, 2021 2. Committee will confirm nominations and eligibility the week of March 8 to 12, 2021 3. Presentation of awards at faculty meeting in April. Student Scholar Symposium Application Deadline is Today, February 8
The Student Scholar Symposium is an opportunity for your students to share their research and creative projects with the UCF community. The deadline to apply is Monday, February 8 at 11:59 p.m. Applications can be submitted by visiting https://researchweek.ucf.edu/aboutsss.
The Symposium will take place from March 30 - April 1. It combines the Showcase of Undergraduate Research Excellence and the Graduate Research Forum into a virtual event. Scholarships will be awarded.
Students from all disciplines are encouraged to apply. Projects in progress are welcome. This premier event is part of the annual UCF Student Research Week that will take place from March 29 – April 2.

DL Course Redesign Initiative CALL FOR PROPOSALS
The Division of Digital Learning is thrilled to extend the Digital Learning Course Redesign Initiative for one more year, and with an increased emphasis on a scale they are seeking proposals for group projects in one of the following three categories:
- Personalized Adaptive Learning (PAL)
- Program Level Redesign
- Post-COVID Redesign
The goal of this initiative is to impact student learning by increasing successful course completion (reduced DFW rates - D/F/Withdraw), particularly in the GEP and STEM courses, and to improve FTIC & Transfer student persistence through a strategic course redesign process that leverages the benefits of online, blended, adaptive, and active learning.

LS-PAC MODELS Mentor Recruitment

The LS-PAC MODELS Center, a Louis Stokes Regional Center of Excellence funded by the National Science Foundation and housed at LSU, seeks to create a successful nationwide model for increasing underrepresented minority (URM) students’ preparation for academic careers by providing opportunities for mentoring, professional development, networking, and research.
They are currently looking for mentors who are interested in providing academic, social, and career guidance to scholars (undergraduate, graduate, post-doctoral, early-career faculty) who are pursuing academic careers in STEM.
Post-doctoral fellows who would like to receive mentorship and professional development related to academic careers in STEM.
Early-career faculty (individuals employed in a faculty position fewer than 4 years) who would like to receive mentorship and professional development to help build skills during the early years of their academic career.
