What do you love to do? It is great to get to do what you love to do. I told our church once, “I am living the dream that God gave to me to be a pastor.” The following Wednesday night, I asked my friend Forest who was serving us supper, “How are you?” He smiled as he answered, “I am living the dream.” He was using his gift, serving our God by serving his people. This is good work. What is your dream? Are you living it?
Ever after the Lord took his attention on the road to Damascus, Paul’s dream was to make disciples. First, he went up to Jerusalem, then down to Damascus. Antioch had sent him out on a number of previous occasions. I am sure he had a place in his heart for those people who called him out of Tarsus to come and teach, and then sent him out to preach with Barnabas, Silas and others.
Paul never let the grass grow under his feet. After a season of being strengthened by the healthy church in Antioch, he went out to Galatia and Phrygia. This is the first time we hear of Paul being in Galatia. Later he would write a letter to the churches there. What did Paul do? He strengthened all the disciples. Spiritual muscles like the muscles of our bodies, atrophy if they are not used. Spiritual sarcopenia sets in. All believers need encouragement and strength. Paul strengthened the believers in Galatia and Phrygia by exercising his gift of teaching God’s word to God’s people. He was doing what he loved to do.
I once heard a speaker say, “God’s purpose for your life resides at the intersection of your greatest love and the world’s greatest need. What do you love to do? What does the world most need? As soon as you can, bring these two things together, and watch God work.
