As AI becomes integral to health care, challenges like bias, errors and misuse arise. In this month’s Louisville Medicine, our members look at what safeguards ensure accuracy, equity and responsible use and how we can balance innovation with caution, particularly when patient outcomes are at stake.

Medicine is more than science, it’s trust, connection, and empathy. Dr. Manikya Kuriti’s journey from a science classroom in India to endocrinology clinics in Kentucky reminds us that being a physician is about listening, understanding and meeting patients where they are. For Dr. Kuriti, endocrinology isn’t just about hormones or glucose levels. It’s about one conversation at a time, across cultures, across challenges and across the quiet, everyday moments where trust takes root.

| New Louisville Medicine themes are here! |
July – due 6/1 – “Elevating Every Physician’s Voice”
Physicians offer valuable perspectives to committees and professional organizations, yet many hesitate to speak up due to hierarchy, conflict or administrative boundaries. Share your ideas on how physicians can confidently elevate their voices while ensuring diverse perspectives are heard.
August – due 7/1 – “From Silos to Synergy”
Medicine has long celebrated individual expertise, but today’s greatest advances come through collaboration across specialties, institutions and communities. Share your perspectives on how interdisciplinary teamwork, partnerships and connected health systems – including better data sharing and interoperability – can break down barriers and improve patient care and community health.
Check out the May issue of Louisville Medicine for a full list of themes for the upcoming year. Please reach out to Kathryn Vance at kathryn.vance@glms.org if you’d like to share your thoughts in an upcoming issue.
