This workshop covers what kind of documentation will you be expected to have, how to apply for your Social Security Number (SSN), and a review of tax resources for non-residents. Learn the basics of this process and get key information on what to expect as you find your on-campus job. This event is co-sponsored by OGS.

Orientation: New International Student Meeting
This meeting is intended for new international students in F-1 or J-1 status who did not attend an OGS Orientation: New International Student Meeting at their school. In this meeting we will discuss topics like work, travel, and adjusting to life at NYU with Office of Global Services staff! This meeting will give you plenty of chances to connect with other students and review important concepts, both new and already reviewed in the online training.
You must complete both the US Immigration Requirements Training and the New International Student Welcome to NYU Meeting to fulfill the orientation requirement.

Academic Training for J-1 Students
Are you a J-1 student wondering how to work off campus in the United States? Come to this workshop to learn more about the most common form of off-campus employment authorization for J-1 students: Academic Training. We'll talk about what Academic Training is, how to apply, the processing timeline, what documents you'll need, and other items to consider, like tax, health insurance, and getting a Social Security Number.

Chances are you’ll need work authorization in order to maintain your F-1 status. This workshop covers what you need to know about your off-campus employment options: an overview of different types of work authorization (namely CPT and OPT), what to consider when choosing the option that fits for you, and how to get through the application process. We’ll also briefly cover employment-related topics like social security, tax, health insurance, and extensions.

Ellis Island Trip

Come with us to visit Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. Once an immigration station for immigrants arriving in the US, Ellis Island is now a historical monument. We will take the ferry to visit both islands, and learn about the many stories of immigrants coming to the US. This tour is part of the Antiracism Education for International Students Program. Included in this ticket is a roundtrip ride on the Statue City Cruiseline.

Fall 2022 International Spouses and Partners English Program
Applications are now open for the Fall 2022 International Spouses and Partners English Program! This program provides non-credit English instruction for the spouses and partners of NYU’s international students and scholars. The classes, taught by graduate students from the NYU Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development, focus on conversational English and American culture, and are offered in 12-week sessions during the fall and spring semesters. The cost is $105 per semester.
All ISEP classes for the Fall 2022 semester will take place remotely online via Zoom sessions. More information about the program, times, dates, and how to apply can be found on our website.
