The CMU Swartz Center Inducts The New Cohort of
James R. Swartz Entrepreneurial Fellows

A formal induction ceremony was held in person and virtually at the CMU Swartz Center on Friday, November 18, 2022 for the new cohort of twelve graduate Swartz Entrepreneurial Fellows and the previously selected twelve undergraduate Innovation Scholars. Several alumni Swartz Fellows and Innovation Scholars attended in person and virtually to help celebrate the new students. A special welcome was also given by CMU alumnus and Accel Partners founder Jim Swartz, who attended virtually. 

The new Swartz Fellows and Innovation Scholars will be attending the annual Entrepreneurship Trek to Silicon Valley in January, 2023. Find out more about the new cohort of Swartz Fellows.

Gecko Robotics Lands $1.5M Contract with U.S. Air Force

Pittsburgh-based Gecko Robotics has landed a contract with the United States Air Force.
The 18-month, $1.5M contract will see Gecko’s infrastructure-scaling inspection robots. Gecko Robotics is co-founded by Jake Loosararian and Carnegie Mellon University alumnus Troy Demmer.

CorePower Magnetics Selected for $5M ARPA-E SCALEUP Grant For Manufacturing Line in Pittsburgh

CMU spinoff CorePower Magnetics has announced that it has been selected to receive $5M in funding from the U.S. Department of Energy's Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) Seeding Critical Advances for Leading Energy Technologies (SCALEUP) program, which supports pre-pilot, pilot and scale up projects of potentially disruptive new technologies.

Precision Neuroscopics Wins $150K At UpPrize 2022 For Improving EEGs For Black Patients 
Precision Neuroscopics, a Carnegie Mellon University affiliated firm that develops caps, clips and braiding techniques for Black patients undergoing EEGs, won the top prize of $150K in the recent UpPrize 2022 competition, an innovation challenge funded by the BNY Mellon Foundation of Southwestern Pennsylvania to support ideas and tech-based solutions that address societal issues.

Advanced Optronics Accepted Into AlphaLab Health's
Third Cohort

Carnegie Mellon University startup and Swartz Center VentureBridge 2022 participant Advanced Optronics has been accepted into AlphaLab Health's third cohort of life sciences startups. Participants in the cohort will receive $100K in preseed-stage funding, wet and dry lab space and other perks. Advanced Optronics is founded by CEO Jay Reddy, Ph.D.

CMU Startup, Profesh Is Live!

 Co-founded by Tepper School of Business alumnus Greg Foster (2015), Profesh is now live with its first bite-sized career education lessons on consulting!

Profesh was created to help young people better understand the professional world so they can find careers they actually like. The Profesh team is excited to offer the platform for free to help more people learn about consulting and whether it might be a fit for them post graduation.

The CMU Swartz Center is excited to announce the 2023 McGinnis Venture Competition.

The
McGinnis Venture Competition is a platform exclusively for Carnegie Mellon University’s global community of student entrepreneurs, bringing together the best and brightest to compete for $60K in investments. All participants receive coaching, valuable feedback and an opportunity to raise capital. The multi-round competition begins with two virtual rounds and will culminate in a final live-round celebration on March 21, 2023. Read the requirements and guidelines here.
