2 Kings 5:11-15
11 But Naaman went away angry and said, “I thought that he would surely come out to me and stand and call on the name of the Lord his God, wave his hand over the spot and cure me of my leprosy. 12 Are not Abana and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? Couldn’t I wash in them and be cleansed?” So he turned and went off in a rage.  13 Naaman’s servants went to him and said, “My father, if the prophet had told you to do some great thing, would you not have done it? How much more, then, when he tells you, ‘Wash and be cleansed’!” 14 So he went down and dipped himself in the Jordan seven times, as the man of God had told him, and his flesh was restored and became clean like that of a young boy.  15 Then Naaman and all his attendants went back to the man of God. He stood before him and said, “Now I know that there is no God in all the world except in Israel. So please accept a gift from your servant.”
New International Version (NIV)
Who is God where you live?  In the ancient world, every district had its deity.  Israel's enemies had their gods.  The problem was false gods never fail to fail.
Naaman was a good man.  He also had leprosy.  A little Israelite girl was a captive in Naaman's household.  She knew the Lord could heal her master.  Though she had been scattered by war, she remembered her God and recommended him.
Naaman found no help in the King of Israel, but Elisha, the prophet offered help.  Dip in the Jordan seven times.  Naaman who had bigger rivers in his homeland thought the suggestion was a ruse.  Getting healed couldn't be that simple.  Urged by his household servants he obeyed and found healing.  With healing came faith.
Faith leads to obedience.  Small acts of obedience access great blessings.  One of our pastors grew up in a country with many gods.  But when his Christian grandfather called upon the Lord and healed him, the whole village became Christian.  We should never underestimate our God.  He is the one true God.  All power belongs to him.  We should definitely obey him in faith today.
Pray with me:
Father, we praise you for your limitless power.  We will obey - do what you say.  Call us today and we will obey.  We believe.  Please help our unbelief.  Wherever you scatter us today help us to speak up for you.  In Jesus' name.  Amen.
Our 2023 Every Day with Jesus readings are taken from Robert Murray M'Cheyne's Bible Reading Calendar. Copies of the reading plan are available at Tallowood Baptist Church, or download your copy here:
Please join us in reading through the scriptures again this year.  We will read the New Testament twice and the Old Testament once this year. M'Cheyne once said, “A man is who he is on his knees, and nothing more.”  Would you pray with me that God will make his word live to us this year?  Let’s not just get through the Bible.  Let it get through to us!

Joyfully,
Duane
