SOLVE-CHD Spotlight
Meet our team with a mini Q&A!

Jess Seymour

Jess Seymour is an Exercise Physiologist and PhD Candidate at the University of Canberra. Her PhD focuses on the implementation of a very brief physical activity intervention ‘Measure It!’ into cardiac rehabilitation programs in the ACT and NSW. As a clinician-research, Jess has a passion for helping people with heart disease to live healthier for longer.

What is your favourite thing about your role?
I have enjoyed the challenges of working on a large implementation-effectiveness trial and working with clinicians in cardiac rehabilitation programs across the ACT and NSW to deliver ‘Measure It!’.
What are you working on at the moment?
We are currently in the final stages of data collection which is very exciting! I am looking forward analysing the implementation data and providing recommendations for the use of ‘Measure It!’ in cardiac rehabilitation.
Why is this project especially interesting or important to you?
Very brief physical activity interventions, like ‘Measure It!’ have the potential to provide clinicians with time-efficient and effective tools to improve physical activity outcomes for people with heart disease.
What do like most about SOLVE-CHD?
I am fortunate to have the opportunity to learn from and collaborate with the SOLVE-CHD team, working towards a shared goal of improving secondary prevention for people with heart disease. I am also grateful for their scholarship support which has allowed me to be fully immersed in my PhD studies while living in Canberra.
What is a recent achievement you’re proud of?
I was recently a finalist in the University of Canberra’s Three Minute Thesis competition. You can watch my pitch here.
What do you like to do outside of research?
I like to spend my time outside exploring new parts of Canberra or heading to the coast for a swim.
