September 6, 2020: Welcome Home!

Happy New Year!

This week, we joyously began a new school year-- our 63rd year of welcoming Dragons to our vibrant learning community.
Congratulations to all for making the first week such a success! We are grateful for our amazing St M community and the patience, support, and well-wishes extended to our faculty and staff team as we navigated new COVID-19 related safety protocols and carpool procedures.
Special thanks to our amazing faculty and staff who spent countless hours this summer preparing to teach in new ways so as to ensure a positive academic and social experience for our students. The strength and resilience of these talented and committed educators continues to shine in this challenging pandemic time.
Be sure to check out our Media Gallery for photos/videos from the first week of school, along with our first day video

Stay In The Know

For those who are new to St M, "This Week at St. Michael's" is our weekly newsletter which comes out via email every Sunday morning to help you prepare for the week ahead. You can also find weekly copies of this newsletter on the St M website and social media.  (These first few newsletters of the year are long as there is a lot of important information to share. Thank you for your understanding.)
A REMINDER THAT MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 7, is a SCHOOL HOLIDAY. (Extended Day is also closed.)

Virtual Enrichment Classes Begin Tuesday, September 8

Instructions were sent home this week with all grades and students practiced accessing the platforms.
For technical issues, please contact Dave Grossman.

COVID Reporting Protocol/Form

If someone in your family has symptoms, has been exposed, or is being tested for COVID-19, please inform the School  IMMEDIATELY IN WRITING via the COVID-19 Reporting Form link below. (The link is also on the school website.) Upon receipt of this information, Nurse Maben, St M's new school nurse, will contact the family. The confidentiality of the diagnosed student or teacher will be maintained.
For Middle School families, once parents have submitted the COVID Reporting Form, the School needs at least 24 hours before the School can set your student up to Zoom into their Middle School classes.

Carline Placards and Masks

A friendly reminder to place the nameplate for your student(s) on the front passenger VISOR facing out. (We can't see names clearly if it is on your dashboard.) This visual cue helps faculty call for the student(s) and thus keeps the carline moving swiftly.  We are happy to provide you with any needed extra placards.
As we get to know new faces, please ensure that your child knows their last name so that carpool runs as efficiently as possible.
For the safety of our faculty/staff, a reminder as well that ALL vehicle occupants MUST BE WEARING A MASK, including the driver, when on campus before our staff will approach the car to take temperatures. Thank you!

Text Alerts

As part of our COVID safety protocols, families should be receiving daily texts with our Heath Assessment form. Thank you for your care in filling them out each morning.
This text system is also used by St M in case of any emergencies.  If you are NOT receiving texts from the school, please contact our Technology Director, Dave Grossman, and he will assist you.

Important Medical Forms Needed

If your child has any medical or severe allergy needs, daily medication to be administered, or asthma, a MAT Medication Consent form, and/or a Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Emergency Care Plan form, or a Asthma form need to be submitted ASAP.
These forms may be found HERE. Please contact the front office with any questions at 272-3514. (Note: the Asthma Form will be added to the website on September 8.)

Late Arrivals Must Park & Call School Office for Temp Check

Any late arrivals to school (after 8 a.m. for morning cohort OR 12:30 p.m. for afternoon cohort) MUST drive and park in the GREEN loop (between Hubbard Hall and Singleton Hall), call the front office at 272-3514, and wait for Nurse Maben to come outside and take your child(ren)'s temperature before they may enter a school building.

Non-COVID Absences/Make-Up Work Policy

Absences:  When a student is going to miss school for any reason, please contact the school office as soon as possible.
  • We encourage parents to make thoughtful decisions about taking students out of school for optional activities as absences place students at an academic disadvantage. The in-class instruction that they miss is irreplaceable. Assignments will not be provided in advance.
  • For Middle Schoolers, Zoom access to online classes is only available to students out of school for an extended period of time due to COVID-related quarantining. As is standard policy, students with short term absences should check their Middle School Google Classroom links for assignments.
  • Eighth graders are encouraged to use school holidays, rather than school days, to visit high schools.
  • For Lower Schoolers, in the case of a brief absence, we will do what we always do: provide parents the opportunity to pick up assignments and materials with instructions required from the classroom.
  • Make-up work:   A student is given a number of days equal to the number of days absent (up to 5 days maximum) to complete make-up work. It is the responsibility of the student to make sure assignments are completed satisfactorily and handed in.
