Hi Neighbor!
My friend who has been a guest in my home numerous times once said that she tries to leave a “very small footprint” when she stays with me. She leaves her room cleaner than it was when she arrived. Sheets are in the laundry room, the comforter and pillows put back on the bed just so.  Since many of us will either be guests or have house guests this holiday season, here are tips I researched about houseguest etiquette.

Rule #1:  Be clear about how long you’re staying. My mother used to say, “wearing out your welcome makes you smell like day old fish.”

Rule #2:  Bring a gift or send a gift afterwards. Something small like a local treat from your hometown bakery, flowers, a candle or a bottle of wine.

Rule #3:  Follow house rules. Is there is a no shoe policy? Is there a phone policy?

Rule #4:  Be overly helpful. If you want to get invited back, help around the house. Prep dinner; do the dishes; play with the kids; walk the dog, the host will greatly appreciate it!

Rule #5:  Be as self-sufficient as possible. The host is not a travel agent. And, if you're asked what you’d like to do, have a plan. No one likes to hear, “I don’t know” or "I don’t care”. They really need to know what your intentions are!

If you get a chance, see the Conestoga High School play, “The Man Who Came To Dinner” to learn more about houseguests!
Happy Guesting!
Beth
