Concord's Independent Bookstore Since 1898

Reopening ... but just a little

The science hasn't changed--it's still best to stay at home, wear masks, wash hands, and maintain appropriate distance from others, until vaccines and treatments are developed. So Gibson's will continue to encourage you to shop from home on our website. We still have our 99-cent shipping program, for orders over $20, and we are also now allowing curbside pick-up, from 10-4, Monday-Saturday.
Please keep sending orders our way.  They are our bridge to a post-COVID19 future. Books are all online, and we've added a new feature to our website to help you shop our cards, toys, and other non-book merchandise. Just go here. You can find the link on our website on your own, under "gifts and gift cards" in the navigation up top.
Beginning May 26, we plan to open the store for shopping by appointment only. Single groups will be able to register to shop in the bookstore for 50 minutes, with groups staggered by the half hour--appointment times will be 10 AM- 3 PM, with appointments wrapping up by 3:50.  These appointments will be Monday-Friday--we’re going to be closed Memorial Day, so the program will begin on Tuesday, May 26. Appointments will be made on a new page on our website, which will become active the week of May 18. More details will follow soon.
Around the country, publisher and distributor warehouses have instituted new procedures to keep their workers safe. This necessarily means that deliveries are slower than we are used to.  The post office is also over-worked and under-funded. We urge everyone to put aside all notions of immediate gratification and accept the idea that good things are worth waiting for.  We're working to get your books to you ASAP.
If you can't think of a book to buy, try our gift cards, also available as online only gift codes. They'll still be good when this crisis is over. We need your continuing support. And we're grateful for it!

Events are Going Virtual

We're closed to the public, so we can't do in-person author events. But it's still our mission to connect readers with writers, and the way we're doing that now is through virtual, online events. You can ask questions and otherwise interact with the authors during some online events, and you can buy signed books through our website.   Click the images below for more info and for ways to join the events online.  Check our events schedule often to learn about new virtual events coming up.

Two NH authors

Thursday, May 14th, 2020, 6 PM EST.
Two NH authors visit virtually to discuss their new books. Anthony Caplan presents Yet Today, a novel about normal people pushed to the brink while society functions, and Sam Kench presents The Fall of Polite, about NH families and characters struggling in lawlessness after society falls.
We will be hosting Anthony and Sam via ZOOM videoconferencing. Click here for more details, including how to join the call.

Past event recordings

Here's a good bookmark to remember. Some of our past virtual events are preserved online, so you can view them at your convenience. Right now we have our event with Sandell Morse and Becky Rule archived there. Later today, our event from last night with Rage Baking authors Kathy Gunst and Katherine Alford will be added to that page. Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to learn about more virtual events coming up and archived online.

Other ways we're keeping in touch online

Our podcast, The Laydown, continues! Check out recent episodes here. We've also begun a new program called Brunch with a Bookseller. Gibson's booksellers will take part in unscripted Zoom sessions talking about what's new, what's hot, and what's just interesting in the world of books, with video available on our Facebook page. These will usually be hosted on our Facebook page around 10 AM every Thursday.
Like everyone else, we're living half our lives on Zoom.  If you're interested in the state of business in downtown Concord, HRKNSScowork is hosting a session on that topic that is free to the public, with several downtown business owners/managers, including Michael from Gibson's. Register for the Zoom event here.

Everyone be well!

Thanks for reading this far. We are so grateful for your support.
