UAH College of Nursing’s new Neighborhood Nursing initiative targets state health disparities |
UAH has launched Neighborhood Nursing, a first-of-its-kind initiative designed to bring health care directly into Alabama communities. Developed by the UAH College of Nursing, the program unites local leaders, health professionals and community partners to improve access to care, reduce disparities and help Alabamians live longer, healthier lives.
Neighborhood Nursing was unveiled during SHINE 2025, the college’s annual Symposium for Health Innovation and Neighborhood Engagement. The program’s first on-site health screening events will begin in early 2026, with plans to expand across North Alabama in the coming years.

UAH partnering on SMART Center to help manufacturers incorporate advanced tech |
UAH has partnered with The University of Alabama (UA) to launch a new initiative: Smart Manufacturing using AI-based Revolutionary Technologies (SMART). The program will help manufacturers incorporate AI, machine learning and digital twins into production by developing shared solutions that improve productivity, quality, sustainability and workforce safety.
“What we’re facing with advanced manufacturing is how to incorporate all the new tools coming down the pipeline,” said Dr. Judith Schneider – professor, Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering; adjunct, Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering, and director, UAH Materials Science Program. “It can be hard for companies to implement the new tools because they’re not trained to use them.”
By fostering collaboration among universities, industry and government, SMART aims to strengthen U.S. manufacturing competitiveness while training the next generation of skilled workers.
