Prairie Meadows has provided more than $2.3 billion over the past 36 years through taxes and charitable donations to improve, strengthen, and enhance our community. We are dedicated to advancing meaningful projects and creating lasting change across Iowa. In 2024, $51.5 million was provided in charitable giving to promote economic development, agriculture, jobs, and tourism across Polk County.
We partner with organizations to improve the lives of Iowans each year through our Legacy, Community Betterment, and Youth Sports and Recreational Grant Programs, event sponsorships, and in-kind donations. In 2024, Prairie Meadows supported Polk County with $29.6 million; the City of Des Moines with a revenue sharing donation of $5 million; and Polk County Schools with $874,171.
Additionally, we provided $7.3 million through our Legacy Grant program, $7.8 million in Community Betterment Grants, and $882,618 in direct support for our Youth Sports & Recreational Grants in 2024.

The Science Center of Iowa engages visitors with hands-on exploration, reinforcing its leadership in science communication. Prairie Meadows awarded a $170,000 Legacy Grant to support the “Think Beyond with SCI” project, including the "Cosmic Playlist" where visitors can create their own planetarium show at the Star Theater. This interactive exhibit sets SCI apart in STEM education.
Additionally, the "When Things Get Moving" exhibit has been completely redesigned, offering a fresh experience. These updates show SCI's commitment to delivering exciting, educational experiences and maintaining its reputation as a top destination for science learning. Prairie Meadows’ ongoing commitment to the Central Iowa Clean Water Partnership is making a significant impact on the region’s water quality. With a $470,000 Legacy Grant, the partnership is tackling urgent water quality challenges through collaborative wetland restoration and protection projects. These initiatives are vital for improving the health of central Iowa’s lakes, rivers, and streams, while enhancing drinking water, wildlife habitats, and recreational areas. This collective effort highlights the power of partnership and lays the foundation for a sustainable future for Iowa’s water resources.

EveryStep – Cheer Box 2024 |

Sponsoring Cheer Box in 2024 for EveryStep’s “Amanda the Panda” Grief and Loss program was a memorable partnership for Prairie Meadows, providing hope and support. This meaningful project was impactful with over 200 volunteers that merrily loaded, unloaded, organized, wrapped, and delivered boxes of hope and compassion to 620 families who faced a tough holiday season without their loved one.
