Countdown to License Renewal: |
It’s Time to Sweat the Small Stuff |
Temperatures are climbing across Indiana as we turn the page to June…are you feeling the heat as we hit the one-month countdown to continuing education and license renewal deadlines on June 30th?
Keeping your real estate license in good standing is a big deal, so don’t overlook the small details that can derail your renewal process. Here are some tips from our Real Estate Certification Program (RECP) team and the staff at the Professional Licensing Agency:
Complete ALL required CE for the three-year licensing cycle before completing and submitting your license renewal.

-
The final question on the license renewal form reads: “Have you completed the required continuing education to renew?” (12 hours of CE per annual cycle for brokers who have been in the business more than two years – 36 hours total for veteran brokers)
-
If you attempt to submit your renewal before completing all 36 hours and answer ‘no’ to this question, your license will be automatically suspended until you finish the total requirement and submit your CE certificates as documentation (a delay you don’t need in the middle of the summer).
-
If you answer 'yes' to submit your renewal before completing the required CE, you may face tougher penalties if the PLA discovers the discrepancy during compliance audits.

Don’t wait until the last week:
The PLA website may struggle to process thousands of last-minute submissions – and there’s no grace period due to technical difficulties. It’s still the licensee’s responsibility to complete and submit their renewal by the deadline.
| |
Each year’s CE requirement must be completed on schedule. |
But hitting the three-year total is still the top priority: Brokers who complete all 36 hours for the three-year cycle – even if some are late and pushed into the wrong year – often only face a fine and not a license suspension.
- The annual 12-hour CE requirement doesn’t kick in for two years (while you complete the 30-hour post-licensing course).
-
You may not have any CE to complete before June 30th or you may only need to complete the current twelve hours (for the July 1st 2022 – June 30th 2023 cycle).
- If you have two years or less in the business and don’t have a CE requirement, answer ‘yes’ to the final question on the license renewal (“Have you completed the required continuing education to renew?”)
